Having just returned from an overnight stay and tour with wife and friends I had to get typing as soon as possible to spread the word, and that word is 'EXCELLENT!' On arrival we were warmly welcomed with our first taste of the produce and what a start - a fresh, crisp and clear white. Could it get any better? Well the answer was a resounding oh yes! The tour followed, conducted by Joe, we sampled each of his wines although to be fair it was a little more than a sample - each eagerly anticipated and of course accepted. Spotted this great place on tripadvisor when researching our break to Carcassonne.We have visited a few breweries and distilleries, but this was our first vineyard tour and we weren't disappointed.Joe welcomed us on arrival and soon had a glass of wine in our hands as we sat on the patio in glorious sunshine looking out towards the Pyrennes mountains. He described what brought him to France, and how his dream of owning his own vineyard led him to this region. We found him extremely down to earth and very knowledgeable as he guided us round his winery. Definitley the highlight of our holiday. Dont leave carcassonne without doing it. My wife had been to lots of vineyards in america and Australia but this was my first time. She said this was the best by far and i cant imagine how you could better this. There is no point in repeating everyone else...Basically all the amazing stuff that the other reviews say is 100% right....If anyone writes a bad review they are lying!!!Its a very personal and unique day. You dont get the feeling that the same stuff is being regurgitated for every group as Joe and Liz completely respond to the company. We visited O'Vineyards on a long weekend in Carcassonne. On looking for a wine tour nearby, we came across O'Vineyards and we're so glad we made the time to join Liz and Joe for a wine and dine experience. The vineyard tour was informal, informative and great fun. Joe is incredibly refreshingly open, honest and very knowledgeable. Following the tour (which included a lot of very generous "tasters"!), we headed upstairs for dinner. Not only was Liz's home cooked food outstanding, the wine kept flowing and the hosts were gracious throughout. We visited ovinary on a short trip to carcassonne and we are very glad we fit this in to our schedule. We did the wine and dine celebration package which I would really recommend.It was a lovely afternoon walking around the estate with Joe hearing about how the wine is made and tasting some of the very lovely wineAfter this we then had an absolutely amazing meal..really amazing! Really lovely food and great company from the owners Joe and Liz and the other guests we were with.They also have bedrooms on site which I looked at and they were lovely so this would make the trip even better!!Thanks Liz and Joe and hopefully see you soon love Hollie and Nick X
Joe and Liz greeted us with the magic words do you want some wine as we walked in the door. This set the tone for a colossal experience of great food, wine and company. Liz's food was top quality and reflected the local produce with some fusion influence. After 4 rounds of Appetisers the main meals had something for everyone. Joe regularly topped our glass with a wide range of the available natural wines made at the vineyard. The OMG and tra laa laa were my highlights while my wife enjoyed a Cassu an old fashion white which Joe is cultivating. Joe greeted us for a sunset tour of their vineyard; his warm personality and self-effacing manner put all six guests at ease. He shared his experience with wine and with life in this beautiful corner of France, and Liz's culinary choices and execution were a delight (as were their wines which were paired with each course). Having spent a lot of time in this area, I can say that an evening here will be both memorable and satisfying.
To say that Liz is an expert chef is perhaps an understatement. As good as any Michelin Star meals we have had, Liz prepared a beautiful lunchl full of regional ingredients, subtle flavors, and creative and innovative dishes! Late last summer I went on a holiday to Carcasonne with a friend, and undoubtedly the highlight of the trip was the wonderful meal we had at O'Vineyards. Wonderful food, wine, and company. Hoping to get back there in the future and I strongly recommend a visit!
