I went to Penny Black yesterday and learned that the former owner of John Steven has taken the corner back from previous owners. The restaurant was turned back to how it use to look. I remember the days of waiting your own table and going up to the bar for everything. Anyway, Jimmy, the gentleman waiter who knows his job and knows it well, In fact, I would expect to see this man at a high end restaurant. He was a pleasure to talk to. The ice tea came out quick from him and was made fresh. The food was good. The cream of crab was not overly salty, the shrimp, that Jimmy had been steamed at the bar, turned out perfectly. I brought my crew here at the end of the evening after our cycling event. We were treated SO WELL. we had to have a private space for havdallah and were given the dining room. It was intimate and charming, with candles, beautiful artwork and a fireplace. Not to mention the drinks were cold, creative and of course delicious and the steamed shrimp was totally on point (I get it every time I come). I've also been here for dates, including first dates, and I highly recommend it. Not to mention the playlist is always .
Went to Fells point yesterday to enjoy our February 80 degree weather and it was great we got the steamed mussels which were cooked to perfection ...so tender and delicious and a point of exlarge steamed shrimp which peeled just perfectly and were delicious ... we sat at an outside table and enjoyed our view as we ate this delicious seafood... job well done Penny Blacks ... we will return.
The atmosphere and vibe is awesome. Staff was supremely friendly and knowledgeable. Had the smoked pork sandwich with bourbon bbq sauce and it was unreal. Followed up with one of my favorite desserts of all time, a fresh made lemon bar that did not disappoint. Highly, highly recommend.
