Taj Indian Cuisine

Very disappointing dinner experience, first time visiting in a few years. Overall restaurant looked unclean , especially the floors. The food tasted good, except the server didn’t think they had any chicken tandoori, but they did. The basmati rice was dry and no added taste. The serving size of dishes were decent , but prices per dish are higher than other local Indian restaurants. We had to ask for knives . The server placed two at one setting, vs one at each place setting. Asked for my water glass to be refilled, which the server did, but she never glanced at my partner’s glass to see if it needed topping up. This spot is one we have gone to several times in the past but not for the last year. This time we found the food to be more bland. The butter chicken was overcooked and lacked flavour, the Lamb Biriyani was one of the worst we had dry and lacked flavour as well nowhere near what it was a year ago. Given the average quality of the food, the prices were definitely too high. I compare this to our other two favorite Indian places, and on average their main dishes were $3 5 higher! Try Haldi on Preston or Aahar in Alta Vista or Churchill. Both are less expensive and much better.

As always, wonderful. Really, the best butter chicken in town, and frankly everything on the menu is delicious. Of all the friends and family that I've recommended Taj to, or invited them to dinner with, all have become converts. I have always loved indian, especially north indian food, and this is simply my favourite place to be and have that.

We decided to try Taj because they have two unusual items on the menu: Dhansakh, a Parsi Sunday afternoon standard at our house and Bombay potatoes. Both were very good with the meat in the former being very tender. Accompanied by fluffy naan, it was an excellent meal.

My family has been going to the restaurant since 1987. It is by far the best Indian restaurant in Ottawa. Highly recommended.
