We 've dined here countless times over at least 7 years, many for special occasions referred this place to everyone we knew. We 've spent over $400 since December 30th and it was the only place our child wanted to dine. As a former bartender, server, manager and local restaurant owner, I was dumbfounded at our treatment. 13 Gypsies is an absolute gem! Everything we’ve ordered has been a treat for the tastebuds, absolutely delicious! Like, surprisingly delicious. The cabbage is my personal favorite. The dishes are small and you’ll need to order a few to fill up on, so plan accordingly if you’re on a budget. However it’s well worth the cost. We are vegetarian and there are plenty of options to choose from. A couple other reviews have talked about being disappointed by portion size and price, but I think that comes down to expectations. It's sometimes difficult to get a reservation at this place (especially on weekends) so make sure you book early. I have not been here in probably 2 years and might I say, this place has gotten better then the last time! This unassuming quaint place located next to a bike shop is one of the better meals I have had in the recent years. And the service was just as good as the food! It's tapas style so don't be afraid to order 3-4 dishes and a bottle of wine. We of course almost explored rhe entire menu and ordered 8-9 options... and ate it all... it was THAT good. I can’t rate the food because we never ate and if overall, I could give zero stars I would; Tiffany the hostess was beyond rude to myself and my friends. We had reserved two tables, one a three top and one a four top because OpenTable would not accept reservations for parties of four or more. When we got there, Tiffany informed us we only had an hour and a half to eat, which would’ve been fine but the way she addressed it was absolutely unacceptable. Last night I was invited to dinner at 13 Gypsies and the service was horrible! My friend was spoke to like trash. The owner let his staff talk to us any kind of way! The hostess/bar tender was yelling across the restaurant as if she had it out for my friend. My dear friend was so excited about having us come all the way from Fernandina Beach to have dinner at 13 Gypsies. They basically judged us before we sat down. I would not recommend this restaurant. Also the bathroom was not clean, never eat at a restaurant that has a dirty bathroom. They are not very nice people.
Never was able to eat there because the lady who was working front of the house was so rude to us and then said we only have 1.5 hours to eat because other people (regulars) were coming. We had 2 confirmed reservations but she denied that so we left and had a great experience somewhere else.
Try to come and eat here every other month or so, It is phenomenal. One of my favorites in Jacksonville. Love the small tapas style plates, reasonably priced and able to try so many different plates/flavors.
