Came over to visit family from hull and we decided to go out for lunch and my family picked this local bar and restaurant to have our lunch.. Nice entrance to the bar, which we was met with a warm smile and welcoming. I the lady showed us to the table , there was 7 of us, so she just pushed a table closer so we had lots of room to sit and enjoy our meal, the child got 2 sheets of colouring paper, which he stared to do straight away.. After our son's wedding, my family and I visited this restaurant for breakfast. We made a reservation in advance for our group of 11 children and 18 adults. Upon arrival, we were greeted with coffee, tea, and juice. Our tables were already set and our hot food was promptly served. We all enjoyed a delicious full English breakfast within 15 minutes of being seated. There was plenty of toast with jam and marmalade, as well as continuous refills of hot drinks. The staff was friendly and attentive, making our experience perfect. We thoroughly enjoyed the end to our special family wedding weekend and will definitely return. Thank you for a wonderful dining experience.
It’s next level eating!! Nathan and his tiny little brother Matthew create an absolute storm in the kitchen. Most definitely on par with Babel in Budapest, this restaurant is a must for any foodie. Turn up early for a drink and be greeted by the delightfully energetic FOH/bar runner/Woman in charge who will make you feel like you’ve been a local for many years and take some time to appreciate the well appointed bar. This place is an dream. I’m almost loathed to tell anyone about it. I want it all to myself.
Visited for the March taster menu and Matthew did us proud, We tried the March 5 course taster menu the food was magnificent. OYSTER, FENNEL, APPLE, CUCUMBER, GREEN HERBS SMOKED DUCK, RADISH, WALNUTS, ORANGE TUNA TARTARE, JACK DANIELS, COCKLES, SHALLOTS 82˚ BRAISED LAMB LEG, PEAS CARROTS, TARRAGON, TRUFFLES THE GIN TONIC Over the last 20 years I have always had good food at 1885 Matthew, Nathan Victoria have done great things with the restaurant and pub. This restaurant is a must-visit if you're looking for delicious food and an outstanding dining experience, especially with their monthly tasting menus. We have been numerous times and have never been let down. My wife and I have also had the pleasure of staying in one of their rooms and turning our dining experience into a full night out on several occasions. It's definitely worth it, especially with a delicious breakfast included the next morning. Great value for the amazing quality of food.
We called in for a quick drink and were shocked at the cost especially considering one of the 2 drinks was a small soft drink from a pump on draught. Totally understand everything has gone up post pandemic however over £10 for a half draught Cola and a glass of house red is really too much for a country pub frequented by locals in a small quiet village. Pricing yourself out of the market springs to mind.. We won’t be back for a quick drink after this.
Great atmosphere and service but let down by the menu choice which was limited and not well balanced in terms of choice. Fish and chips were good but the curry, lasagne and pie were very average. The lasagne was very rich and lacking in pastas, more like a bolognaise although all fresh. Cheese and biscuits were very good, plenty of variety and portion size was excellent. ala carte priced food but over priced for a pub dining experience.
Exiting and delicious tasting menu! Me and my partner are both foodies and love trying something new, this did not disappoint!! Everything was perfect, from the friendly welcome at the door and service from the staff, cocktails, wine list and food. Great quality and value for money for such a fabulous experience. This was my first visit to this restaurant, where we celebrated a birthday. The food was excellent and the service was friendly and top-notch. The house wine was of good quality as well. I will definitely be returning in the future.
