1919 Cafe is cafeteria style and menu options can be scanned via QR code outside the building or can be seen on the website, but you'll need to sign up for the newsletter first a day prior to your trip to be able to view it. We ate lunch around 2:00 PM, and there was a bit of seating left but not too much. At 2:30 PM, the lunch rush had almost completely died down. From Cactus, we got the Three Amigos tacos plate with carnitas, chicken, and carne asada. All three tacos were dressed with pickled red onion and mild salsa. The tacos were a bit dry. The 1919 Café is an open food court with a central cashier station. When we had lunch, there were plenty of inside and outside tables. There were many food styles to choose from: a salad bar, pizza, entrees, sushi (made onsite) and prepared takeaway. As one would expect, the prices aren't cheap BUT they're not as expensive as I expected. We chose to go with prepared takeaway, I'm glad we did. Trying to eat healthy in a captive environment it very difficult, but it worked here. I ventured with the Grilled Chicken Caesar Wrap. The caloric issue here is the Caesar dressing: deadly. What's up: After strolling through the gardens on a hot day, we decided to come here to grab some drinks from the fridge cool off. But oh look, there's a BAR!!! This review is mainly for the Bar because...who needs seltzer from the fridge when there are real drinks?! Hahaha. Parking: Plenty of parking available since we arrived early. You will need tickets to the Huntington to gain access to the cafe. Environment: The bar is located in the center of the cafe. Bearing in mind eateries on museum grounds are always more expensive, the food tasted good. We came here for Mother's Day, usually we go to Top's Burgers before going to The Huntington, but I wanted to eat at 1919 for a change. I tried the taco bowl with carne asada this time. Other times, I've just had the pizza, which was fine. The server was polite, but he forgot to give me the tostada shells, I had to ask for them, and even with that, he only gave me two. This cafe is conveniently located close to the gift shop and entrance to the Huntington Library. You do not need a ticket to get in and eat at this cafe. We always come here after spending couple hours in the garden. Either get a drink or sweets They have a variety of food stations from hot food/pizza/entrees , salad, sandwiches, grab n go, drinks, desserts and ice cream! A cafeteria type of set up. Get what you like, pay at the cashier then find a table. Tables are cleaned out pretty quickly. We came after the lunch rush at around 2 so couple tables were opening up. They have seatings both indoor and outdoor. Personally i like the patio seating more to enjoy sunny outdoor and plants.
I finally found what I can eat here! I feel guilty getting food at the food court, not due to the cost but to its deliciousness. The husb always gets the three taquitos plate. Looks delicious but gotta watch what I eat, some days during the week. We went on a Monday. I went to the grill and got the chicken burger with grilled vegetables. It was a good filling delicious lunch option. Happy to say I found a new fav when we come to The Huntington!
I love that this cafe has so many different food options! Every time I visit, I want everything they have to offer! The food is fresh and well-made and the service is always friendly. I enjoyed my taco and aguachilles bowl. The Whiskey Bramble drink was so good that I took a photo of the menu and made a similar drink at home . Sitting outside is always nice but sometimes it gets too hot in the summers. The indoor seating is great as well.
This place is great and the staff are all kind. The bad reviews are from entitled Karens and Richards who think they know everything and want to be coddled. It was insane to see how stupid and arrogant the customers here are. So definitely don 't be discouraged from visiting this place based on the bad reviews; you 'll probably have a good time as long as you 're not a Karen.
A bit overpriced, a bit undercooked. My sister said the sushi here was good but I had the hotdog and it was severely undercooked. Never again. I may come back and try the sushi but that is yet to be seen. I did like the different stations which different foods being offered and the free iced water. My brothers turkey burger was $21 and he said it wasn't worth it though.
