We went to this restaurant following great reviews. What a disappointment after some great food and service in Tavira in other places. The waitress was friendly and when we ordered Portuguese steak asked how we who like it cooked. We asked for rare and she made a big thing to check we liked it with blood as she was worried it would be too rare. We reassured her this is how we liked it. It was completely overcooked (very well done) and the rest of the dish tasteless.The accompanied salad was excellent and the only enjoyable part of the meal. We had 2 glasses of wine and a small beer which came to 11 euros (no prices on the menu) which we normally pay 6.5 euros elsewhere. When we paid we said...
Went here for lunch. Food wasn’t bad but limited. They had no cheese or ham to make an omelette so I ordered a plain one which came out about half the size I expected. They forgot a portion of chips we ordered and no one can put to take our drinks order so no drink during our meal. Salad was very good, Sea Bass tasted nice but so many bones and so little meat on it it was more like a starter. Quite expensive as well so 45 euros for lunch for 3 with a single drink each and we had to go somewhere afterwards to get something else as none of us were close to being full. I was made to feel welcome, which is not always the case when arriving at a restaurant solo. Some restaurants give the impression that you are taking up valuable space, but not here. I was treated well and it felt good. They made no effort to rush me through the meal, so they could turn over the table. I ordered the sea bass and a glass of wine, and both were excellent. The salad that arrived with the meal was wonderful. I'm not a fan of potatoes, so those were left untouched (I wish I had known they were coming, so I could have refused them rather than wasting them). The food and service and location were all wonderful and I hope to return soon. Very good value for money.
The owner was waiting tables (along with another woman) this hot summer day and she was apparently having a really bad day. “Fish or meat?” She barked at us as we sat down. Now yes, we are US expats living in Tavira, but we were accompanied by two Portuguese friends and that just seemed to escalate her barking. We’d been to A Barquinha once before, about a year prior, again with a Portuguese friend, and the same lady was in a good mood, food nice, no problems. The photo doesn't do the dish any justice as we were half way through when I took it. My wife and I stopped here for lunch after we flew in from the UK and transferred from Faro. We were a little late as they were about to close up but Julia went out of her way to accommodate us. We shared a large prawn salad with sweet courgette, nectarine, apple green leaf lettuce and carrot. It was the perfect amount and the taste was far above the sum of its parts! Highly recommend trying this restaurant!
Amazing experience at Barquinha! Started with being introduced to the freshly caught fish (Corvina). This being grilled over the BBQ with a freshly made salad and potato side (and mayonaise). Super friendly staff with a strong self confidence that suits her because she believes in the products she serves and it shows! You have to come early because everyone loves this place!
What an amazing experience! The owner was very caring and attentive to me and my family. Signature foods sardines absolutely delish, golden bream well seasoned but most of all the salad work of art and beautifully presented absolutely mouth watering. If in Tavira again will be my first visit! Thank you so much.
