Words can't adequately describe this place and the experience of dining here. In a way, that experience actually starts as you make your way to the restaurant. Whether you get there by bus (from Mayrhofen or other towns nearby), by car (check with your hotelier before you drive there to see if the road is open), or by hiking, the view from the valley leading up to the dam and where the restaurant is breathtakingly beautiful. We hiked up to the restaurant on a cold and raining day, with some fresh snow from the night before on the ground in mid-July. Der einzige Haken ist, dass man 105 Stufen an einer Metalltreppe hinaufsteigen muss, um dorthin zu gelangen. Na ja, ich habe es geschafft. Wenn ich gewusst hätte, dass es einen hinteren Weg gibt, der über eine steile Straße führt, hätte ich lieber diesen genommen, weniger gruselig! Es gibt Sitzplätze drinnen und draußen. Das Personal ist freundlich. Ich habe nur einen einfachen Salat gegessen, der in Ordnung war. This restaurant, situated above the dam and reservoir at Zillergrund, has fabulous views. The only snag is you have to climb 105 steps up a metal staircase to get to it. Well, I did. If I'd known there was a back way there, up a steep road, I would have taken that route instead ~ a bit less scary!There is seating inside and out. The staff are friendly. I only had a basic salad to eat, which was fine. If you are staying at The Hotel Obermair in Mayrhofen (as I was) you get a free bus ride there and back (nearly an hour each way) and a voucher towards the cost of food and drink, so this was a good value trip out. Quite a steep climb up the stairway clinging to the side of the cliff or alternatively you can walk further along the road and then turn up the hill to the restaurant. The menu caters for all tastes and provides everything from a coffee to a light snack or a three course meal. All meals are freshly prepared and the strudle is excellent! Tables available outside with views over the reservoir, the mountains and down the valley, or inside with more limited views but near a log fire for cooler days.
Die Käsesuppe war köstlich! Und der Glühwein war wunderbar nach einer langen Wanderung den Berg hinauf zur Kapelle St. Valentin. Der Service war großartig und das Essen war wirklich gut. Herrlicher Blick auf die Berge. Die Dekoration ist wunderbar, sehr tirolerisch, und es gibt wundervolle Kamine. Wir waren an einem kühlen Tag Mitte Oktober dort, so ein schöner Ort.
Meine Bestellung wurde bei der Bearbeitung der Karte doppelt gezählt. Die Kellnerin war nicht überrascht, daher scheint sie für mich solche Tricks bewusst angewendet zu haben. Wie Strudel war es nicht frisch, ich glaube, es wurde in der Mikrowelle erhitzt und war daher innen überhitzt.
Wir hatten 2 Salate (mit Käse und Pute), 2 Biere und Desserts (Apfelstrudel und lokale Spezialität). Das Essen war sehr gut, ebenso wie der Service. Wir zahlten 40€. Aber der Blick auf den See und die Berge ist wirklich die Hauptattraktion. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
The restaurant has amazing views over the reservoir and surrounding area. The apple strudel was superb, the best we have had in Austria. Very good service. The restaurant is a must if visiting the Zillergrund reservoir.
