Akkad is only one of a few Iraqi restaurants by name, if not the only one in Los Angeles, with authentic dishes that rival the nearest enclave of Iraqi restaurants in San Diego. You'll find their parking lot in this strip mall to fit the bill for most days, and their hours to be a bit constraining. Most people seem to get their items to go, and they remain busy with mostly to go orders. You will find that they have great traditional eats like luleh (koobideh) kabob, kibbeh of all kinds, lamb quzi, foul, falafel or shawarma. I recently visited Akkad Iraqi restaurant and unfortunately had a disappointing experience. My friend and I wanted a simple side salad, but the waitress informed us that it was not on the menu. She offered to have the kitchen make one for us, but what we received was a big salad with chips bread that wasn't what we wanted. We asked for another salad, but it still wasn't what we were looking for. When we received the bill, we were charged $9 for something that wasn't what we ordered. The food at this restaurant is incredibly disappointing—expensive and unhealthy. It's extremely salty and they use very spicy seasonings that are completely unrelated to Iraqi cuisine. The kabob tastes more like plastic than actual meat, and the rice is undercooked and still hard. The red bean soup was nothing but a salt overload. The prices are outrageous; we paid $55 for small portions that were worth no more than $22, and we ended up leaving without eating. If you have high blood pressure, this is definitely not the place for you—it's more like a trip to the ER waiting to happen.
As an Iraqi, I was really looking forward to dining at this restaurant, but unfortunately, the quality fell short. The appetizers were still cold in the center, and the portion sizes were quite small. For over $100, I expected better quality and larger servings. The portions were large and priced well for how much we were served. Our meals were hot, served quickly, and the side salad was crisp and full of flavor. Come hungry and ill bet you still will bring some home. Vahe was personable and helpful explaining all about the menu and making recommendations.
Went here when we came to visit LA. The food was very good and tasty. The food also came very fast. We ordered falafel, tashreeb, tekka, and labanee koba. We all enjoyed our food. Truly great service and great atmosphere. I highlRecommend this place
We tried potato chops, Iraqi Lule kabob, chicken cream chops all delicious . Kahi we thought should be filled with gemar (cream) it was not?but tasted delicious .They did not have Iraqi bread normally will be ready after 1 pm.Recommend this place.

The food is delicious and the service is great . I had the beef shawarma and it was so good. They have fresh bread and the place is cozy close to home style. Nothing fancy but great food.
