I visited this diner for the first time today, and I can confidently say it will be my last! This establishment is far from being a family-friendly restaurant. This morning, I went there alone and sat at the counter. A young, pregnant hostess greeted me and brought me my drinks. As I enjoyed my coffee, I overheard her asking where her boss was, and moments later, an elderly man emerged from the back. The hostess approached him with a question, but suddenly he started pushing her, saying “GO, GO, GO.” As she was being shoved away, she asked him why he was treating her like that and told him to stop. He then grabbed her arm and forced her away! I was in complete shock at what I had witnessed....
Alice's is definitely the worst diner in Lancaster. Our waitress, Cathy, was incredibly rude and slammed our plates down, and to top it off, she got our order wrong. It seemed like she only smiled and was polite to white customers—my fiancé is white, and that was the only time we saw her be nice. The diner itself was filthy, the creamed chipped beef was terrible, and the portions were extremely small for the price. Even my eggs and home fries were cold and lacking in flavor. Who messes up eggs? I would never recommend this place to anyone. By the way, the rating system is awful; I wanted to give it no stars at all!
Alice's Diner is a convenient spot in the neighborhood with good food and friendly service, and the jukebox adds a nice touch to the atmosphere. However, I believe the owner should consider hiring a cleaning service to thoroughly clean the floors and restrooms. My sneakers stuck to the floor on my way to the cashier, and the area under our table was quite dirty. I'm not overly particular about cleanliness, but for a diner with this level of popularity, it seems essential to prioritize the well-being of customers. This really makes me wonder about the cleanliness of the kitchen as well!
My Dad eats there most every day. I join him often. Food is good, service is great. They take real good care of Dad. His coffee is on the table waiting for him when he sits down. :
