I am a hamburger junkie. I don't drink and I don't smoke but I enjoy me a hamburger every week (my arteries are thanking me I'm sure) It took me awhile to make it here but I finally made it to the George Street location one night. I had been dying to try their Royal Burger as I remember the Royal Burger Drive-In fondly from childhood. So after much anticipation I ordered the Royal Burger and fries. As soon as I opened the wrapper the smell was familiar and I almost drooled. Sadly the taste just wasn't there. Fresh meat for sure and that makes a huge difference but it just fell short of my expectations. Now, I felt unfair judging a place on trying to recreate a burger I had more than 30 years...
Was there and part of the reason we went was because had heard that they had the same receipe as the old Royal Burger chicken burger. Well in the Royal Burger days you would watch the chicken cooking on the rotisserie, but at Apollo Grill their chicken burger was a frozen chicken patty. I told the servers that it was far from what was once served at the old drive thru on Lansdowne. They were so young that they had no idea of what \I was speaking of, so didn't push the issue. But certainly would not recommend it to others if they were looking for old chicken burger.
Absolutely.......the ground beef tasted real, although probably mixed with something (which is fine as it can make it less greasy). Buns are pretty ordinary....and the ingredients that are put in it are nothing out of the ordinary. Also liked the Yam fries. Not at all impressed with the quality of the cheese in my cheeseburger. As for the best....I was always partial to Reggie's Grill in East City, and the Red Wagon Chip Truck in the North End of town (near Trent University).
At the George St location early and one lady did all 4 burgers. Surprised to find her pan fried them well. Burgers are fresh. Chicken burger good-Crispy on both side, with BBQ sauce taste good with lots of good sautéed mushrooms. They have 99cent ice cream cone with four kinds of favours. This is a no-frills burger grill, with excellent fresh food and a friendly atmosphere. Great for the family. Prices are good given the size of the meals. Burgers and fries are superb. They do get busy and then the service slows down - but it's...More
We go there as a family for birthday suppers. Best fresh burgers in town. Large fries are huge and can feed two or three or more. Also they have a sweet potatoe fries that are delicious. East city bakery buns. Locals will know how good they are.
Nice clean restaurant with friendly staff. 50's music and surroundings. Burgers are made fresh and you can watch the chef's cook and prepare them. My favorite is the Apollo Burger, large burger, very tasty. cooked to perfection
We had the mushroom swiss burger and the royal burger along with a craft lager that was delicious, They even had a pilsner on draft. Everything was tasty and not dry. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
the food is excellent !! they have a copy of the old royal burger which some of us who were around when the royal burger was here will really appreciate. great food.
