Extremely disappointed. Arnies used to be my favorite restaurant. I was so upset when they changed it to beer city bread company. Arnies was such a classic and this is coming from someone currently in her 20s. When they added a small restaurant to the bakery I was so excited. We came right when they opened and I got the same order I used to always get. The cheese soup used to be creamy and was a very light orange color served with saltine crackers and bacon bits and in Feb it was a bright unnatural orange with bread. Arnie's will ALWAYS be one of our favorite restaurants in Grand Rapids!!! We've been eating here since the original The Old Mill days in Rockford and have enjoyed all the locations over the years. Now under the newer name, Beer City Bread Co. we are so thankful they've kept the ol' favorite menu items we've loved since the last 40 years! Please don't remove the Scandinavian Shuffle or the delish Riviera Salad loaded with nuts and strawberries!!! I have always been a loyal Arnie' s customer. However, I bought a Dutch chocolate torte there to bring to work. I noticed there was frost under the lid and asked it it was freezer burn. The workers assured me it was fine. I have brought Dutch chocolate tortes to work before and they always disappear rapidly. This one was hardly touched. The cream filling tasted like it had gone off and the cake tasted dry and old. My coworkers noticed it and I was embarrassed to have brought it. I returned three quarters of the cake after work and asked to talk the manager. She was not there but called me the next day. She did not offer a refund but said she would send me a voucher for another cake and assur...
Stopped in to ask if they could decorate a cake a particular way with smooth frosting on top with polka dots of the same color on top. Was assured it could be done. Went back to order it and was told they would not do it. I then asked for plain white frosting with a smooth ribbon of color around the top using a different color for each side. Went to pick it up and there was a fluffy/puffy blue edging around the whole thing. I was told the person who took the order wrote it correctly but the decorator did it wrong. Offering 15% off did not fix the entire situation. Won’t go back.

I really appreciated the option to choose a ready-made birthday cake, and the decorator was able to write a message on it in just about five minutes. The cake was delicious, and the staff were very friendly!

The only place you should go for your birthday cakes. They are always beautifully decorated and incredibly delicious.
