It was a beautiful September day. On our way from St Jean Pied de Port to San Sebastián, we fit in Basque village sightseeing and a lunch at Hotel Arraya, Sare. We decided to sit outside under the hotel's trees--a good spot for people watching...with traditional red, green and white Basque houses in the background. Service was nice, our waiter was attentive with our drinks and we got yummy cantaloupe soup amuse bouches. As seen in my pictures, the food is beautifully delicious and made from great ingredients. We were pleased with the lunch experience. Gateaux Basque souvenirs are on my list, so after ordering lunch, I jumped out to their gateau Basque stall and got few to go. It was a brilli...
the family that care for the happy guests who live and eat in the wonderful restaurant are friendly and helpful. it is a small piece sky with exceptional style and attentive service. we had been lucky to be there for a choir evening in the communal church where I saw the name napoleon, but I am sure it was a distant related. my man wandered the caves and forests while I was lying to the jet, waited for dinner hour so I could have a cocktail again in the beautiful salon before dinner. we were there for a week to hike the hills and tods.
Having never visited the region before, we were happily surprised to discover the excellent local hospitality. The Arraya hotel restaurant offered a dinner menu of Basque specialities as well as a more traditional menu with foie gras, local asparagus, fresh fish and beef. Everything was...super fresh delicious, service efficient friendly. We enjoyed an excellent bottle of Medoc at an extremely fair price and menu pricing also was very good value. I only wish we had had more opportunity to explore the menu lunch also looked promising!
This quaint hotel has a restaurant on the street level. Lovely setting with attentive service and above average food choices. Easy going pace and tasty local plates. French specialty sweet breads done to perfection. I wish for more vegetable choices but realize that most people...do not care for this. I'm not sure if any of the food was really Basque', or just good southwest French. Overall nice experience.

We had a great three course meal with a bottle of wine at this lovely restaurant. The staff was very nice and attentive. The dishes were delicious: Foie gras and veal kidneys with mushrooms (ris de veau) for starters, haddock and duck for main course...(the duck was a little chewy, though) and creme brulee and traditional basque cake for dessert. The wine recommended by the waiter was very good.
my man and I had dinner at two consecutive nights in the hotel arraya restaurant and where both were delighted. we remember above all a well made filet of bark meat and a dessert selection of pays basque cheese. the interieur is warm and unpretentily elegant and the service is committed and un-stuffy.
We dined at this hotel and were treated very kindly. The food was very good and the room was lovely. Their credit card machine wasn't working, and they trusted us to come back the next morning (we weren't staying with them).
we visited for a long day of tourist activities looking for a simple evening meal. they had a very nice menu and the service team took care of us. the cheeseboard was a perfect end of the meal.
