I first discovered Ichiban years ago when they offered a wonderful 50% off deal on sushi, which made me an almost weekly customer. Sadly, Covid and inflation have caused that deal to go away, but even so the food is still very good, and the prices are in-line with the other sushi restaurants in the area. The restaurant does look a little threadbare though these days and could use an update. I ordered sweet and sour soup (my favorite at Chinese restaurants), but it was mediocre at best. It lacked the expected rich, pungent flavor and was instead quite light and bland. My companion tried the vegetable tempura, but the batter was tasteless, and it was returned to the kitchen immediately because it was far from edible. As I was getting ready to leave for work, I found my food abandoned next to my front door—without anyone knocking or ringing the doorbell. I noticed the delivery driver sitting in a car across the street, giving me a thumbs up as he drove away. I have no idea why he was just parked there. I checked my security cameras and saw that the food arrived at 2:40 PM, but it was 3:45 PM by the time I went to leave for work, and still no one had bothered to knock or ring the bell. The Chicken Tempura was lightly battered and not at all soggy, which I appreciated. The Spicy Tuna had a fresh taste and was flavorful. The Japanese Fried Rice was also great, with a good shrimp to rice ratio—something that's important to me. Overall, I really enjoyed the food from Ichiban. While the prices are slightly higher than other sushi spots, the enjoyment you get from the meal makes it worthwhile.
