This cafe is in the heart of a very touristic village so you expect some delays, but we arrived at 12:00 and were promptly seated, only for every later arrival to be served first, despite attempts to attract anyone’s attention. When we did get their attention all we got was ‘j’arrive’. Even the French ladies on the next table were trying to get us some service. Eventually, after more than 30 minutes we were able to order, but then the food arrived without drinks, which only arrived after engaging with another waitress who was looking after a different area. We look forward to coming to this cafe for lunch every year from Australia) but not again.
We stayed at the attached hotel for one night and had a dinner bed and breakfast package with dinner and breakfast served in Au Gout du Jour, a bistro next to a busy road. The food for the 3 course dinner was quite good but service was very slow with the few staff clearly under pressure. Breakfast was disappointing with a limited supply of food and, we felt, rather poor quality products. The restaurant itself was not a very pleasant place to eat breakfast, perhaps some background music would liven it up a bit?
Again, I was the only person at 7:15. By 8:00 it was getting full. No english this evening but we did just fine. Simple a la carte menu, moderate prices. I started with the house fois and it was presented with a small salad. Perfect. I had duck breast with pepper sauce. Came with lots of very well preparted vegetables and potatoes. The meat was cooked perfectly. Service was attentive without bothering me. Wines were local and the very best. Makes you want to try their major restaurant, Le Bonne Etape.
We had a lovely lunch here, we highly recommend. My husband had the duck breast cooked to exactly how he ordered it with some lovely creamy sliced potatoes, I had a well presented and tasty salmon salad with grapefruit slices. Washed down with a lovely Cote de Provence Rosé. Perfect.
