This was our second visit to this restaurant. On the first visit, about three years ago, we were not overwhelmed but our recent meal was well below standard for a restaurant of this standing.The amuse bouche consisted of one "mini Hamburger" per person plus a bowl of a tzatziki style mixture with two bread fingers per person for dipping. As regards starters: the foie gras (generous portion) was served rather inelegantly with a large brioche bun and the terrine joue de boeuf was clearly made from a very aged animal with some rather tough artichoke leaves. We have been a party of four on the weekend and the restaurant was fully booked.The ambiance of the restaurant is rather unspectacular while the sevice is swift.We odered the 4 different kinds of fixed menues which are on offer. While the appetizers have been of acceptable quality the entrees have by far not. The meat was not as tender as expected and the fish was not fresh. Vegetables have been slightly overcooked and stale and it seemed that some dishes have had to wait until others have been under preparation. Desserts then were acceptable again.The wine list is a comprehensive selection, so there is something for any taste.
Visited with friends en route to Holland from Switzerland. Selected it based on its Bib Gourmand qualification, which, for me, hardly disapoints. Family run place just of the highway close to the Rhône. Typical rural interior, which is fine. We had the three course lunch menu. Smoked salmon was very fatty and too salt. Steak was too well done with a very mediocre pepper sauce, overcooked vegetables. Wines, however, were great (but the cook had little to do with that). Very friendly and helpfull staff. Overall, won't recommend.
A friend seduced us to the "Lion d'or" for an asparagus feast last May. We had enjoyed many asparagus meals during that season, but the lion's one were by far the best: big, plumb, juicy and tasted delicious. The other high light was the foie gras, again one of the very best we ever had. The service was friendly and attentive. We enjoyed also the typical french ambiance. And we shall be back for more. Close to Basel if you want to avoid crazy Swiss prices and want to experience Alsacian very good cuisine, this is the right place. Service is very good and wine list offers a very broad choice with local wines and wines from other French regions. Don't hesitate, book a table and try it.
Nice atmosphere with a lot to offer on the menu and a great wine list. Friendly service. They have special seasonal "themes" and now the choucroute just started. Mussels in October.
it is a very nice restaurant with very good food and wine. Nice terrasse outside, and can also be booked for family / business events
