Au Za’atar is my favorite restaurant in the city! Such a cozy, intimate atmosphere with a buzzing environment. The perfect spot for a small dinner or a big table with friends. The staff was so kind and helpful and the decor of the restaurant is truly beautiful. I went with two friends and we ordered a range of appetizers on the menu. Providing a guide for non-native eaters who are curious! Fattet Al battenjan: Eggplant dip with fruit and crunchy toppings. This was such an interesting and refreshing mix of flavors! Had a wonderful time at Au zaatar. Food was good but service was great! Our waiter Gio was really nice and accommodated our family of 4 plus a baby. He even gave us an Islamic greeting and good bye, which was really sweet, not sure if he was Muslim or not but he made our family feel comfortable. The food was good, I would suggest maybe ordering the Shawrma on the spit ahead of time as it took a while. But Gio kept us up to date so we had no issues. Will definitely visit again and ask for a table where Gio would be our server! Happy New Year everyone, love and light
Great food and service! Gio (our server was suuuuper attentive and helpful with the menu. The food was SO delicious. To me, it felt like I went to a Lebanese friend’s home and their mother cooked for me. It was unbelievably hearty and savory and warmed me up on that cold winter’s night in January. Had a fantastic meal here with friends. We shared the mixed grilled platter supreme with sides of spicy hummus, the halloum mekli cheese, and the sambousik lahme. Our bartender Andrew was fantastic in accommodating whatever our palettes wanted and our server Philippe was remarkably hospitable. Highly recommend, particularly the lamb! ? Shish Tawook Platter (Chicken Kebab) was delicious but the portions are extremely small compared to its location down town in the east village.
