Don’t visit this restaurant if the chef is busy watching the rugby. We stayed at the auberge the night of the France New Zealand World Cup Rugby match (8th Sept). We were told we needed to eat early, which was fine, but weren’t told there wasn’t a real chef on duty. My wife’s starter was unseasoned, and basically inedible we gave it to our dog, The veal with my wife’s main course was over cooked and half raw for mine. Very disappointing at €23 ! and definitely not worthy of a gourmand rating. Presumably it would have been better if the chef had actually been present.
We enjoyed a fantastic dinner at this traditional auberge. We ate from the set menu and enjoyed a starter of lentil and pigs foot terrine with foie gras and for the main I had the most beautifully cooked roast cod that I have ever eaten. My partner had duckling, which was cooked to a perfect medium. Our mains both had delicious and well-chosen garnishes and were accompanied by truffade; a traditional Auvergne dish of slow cooked potatoes with cheese and lardons. It was lovely. The service was very friendly and we finished the meal with tasty deserts and coffees.
vert nice location some 15 minutes outside Clermont-Ferrand, in the beautiful surroundings of the vulcan Puy de dome. Typical french environment, nothing fancy but very pittoresque, and the food is GREAT. Fresh natural ingredients, typical dishes from the Auvergne 'regional cuisine ' , and the taste of the food is splendid. This is a hidden treasure.
the place is charming, a real mountain inn, the welcome is warm and we enjoy ourselves: we chose the beef of salers, absolutely delicious and our guest the knight omble: we were all delighted, the truffa of is a delight; we have brought in in addition to small mouth amuse to the gourmet ceps, good desserts, adorable service
The restaurant claims to open on 19:30 so we waited 15min as we were too early. After waiting for another 30min the restaurant still didn't open the doors. We heard some voices inside the house but no reaction. Why don't they publish the opening times on their website? Or a paper on the entry door?
very nice discovery, pleasant setting, friendly and professional staff, everything was good from the entrance to the dessert, discovery of the famous truffle, a feast. veal medallions of excellent small vegetables,
Its well worth the drive up into the hills around Clermont to visit this wonderful old rustic Auberge. The owners were very friendly and helpful, the decor rural France and the food outstanding.
