We visited the Auberge des Roy as a party of 8 (plus a baby) and were all impressed with the environment and beautifully varied french menu. There are three menus to choose from (17, 26 and 32 euros) and all of them offer excellent value and a range of tempting dishes. The mackerel with ricotta and tomato starter was a particular hit and every meal was artistically presented and packed full of flavour. The service was friendly and welcoming and the staff did their best to explain dishes despite our limited grasp of the french language. This is simply one of the most exquisite hotel complexes I have seen. THE setting is in a dramatic canyon at the end of Isalo Park and the buildings perfectly blend into and even enhance what nature offers. There is a beautiful large pool, horse back riding with trails either to ride on or hike, a game room and a bar that serves delicious tapas with your drinks. The rooms are dramatic and the various small gardens works of art. The staff is friendly and well-trained. THIS is that rare thing: a top quality resort that is reasonably priced. Why not 5 stars? UNLIKE other reviewers...we found the food completely mediocre. Even the breakfast was pathetic. SO sad because everything else was a joy.
We were looking for somewhere to eat on a Saturday night whilst passing thru this area. The welcome and service overall were excellent we were really well looked after. The food was delicious particularly the fish and the cookie dessert was wonderful! Good value too.
While driving through Normandy we stopped here for a coffee break. We were shown to the outdoor area at the back of the main restaurant. Service was really great, as we didn't want a full lunch the chef offered to bake fresh croissants. Delicious.
