My family had a great experience at the Baddeck Lobster Supper. We made reservations the day of and had no problem getting a table for 6 at 6:00pm. There was quite a line-up when we left so I definitely recommend trying to make reservations.My husband and brother-in-law ordered the "all you can eat" option and really enjoyed each course - they had 2 orders of the mussels. I had the lobster dinner and thought the lobster itself and side salads were fresh and yummy. My sister and mom had the steak and it looked good too. Living in a tourist town has some advantages, and Baddeck Lobster Suppers is one of those. Although I have access to as much lobster as I can buy whenever I want, there is something extra fun about coming to the BLS (as we call it.) The staff are super friendly, the food is all good (you can't go wrong with lobster) and the casual atmosphere makes you feel like you are at a community supper in rural Cape Breton in the 1950s. Stopped here because it was convenient location and had good reviews on-line.Restaurant was VERY BUSY, but we decided to wait (about 1/2 hour) for a table,We all had the $32 Lobster meal. The Lobster was very good. Despite their claim that all shell was pre-cracked, I found some of the large parts of the arms were not cracked, and would've been nice to have the cracking tool. This was the best meal we had of our trip to the maritimes. We got the $42 menu which includes all-you-can-eat chowder and all-you-can-eat mussels. On top of that, you are given a variety of breads at the beginning of the meal and dessert and coffee or tea at the end. This is in addition to your main course which is either lobster, salmon, crab or steak.I got the lobster and it was excellent and happily pre-cracked so that it didn't take a lot of work to extract the meat. My husband got the maple-glazed salmon and, trying a piece, it was some of the best salmon I've ever had. The mussels were also a high point for me. so so good. Truly, the lobster, cedar planked salmon, and mussels were delicious! We had the most delicious food. BUT, a bus full of tourists came in about 5-10 minutes after us, and it was almost too insane to believe: even though we had placed our orders before the bus was seated, we sat there stunned over the next 40 minutes while they were all seated and got their food before us. The bus full of tourists were wrapping up by the time we got our "all you can eat" mussels, and they were lined up to pay their bills when our food arrived. By the time they took our dessert orders, which was included in the meal, our waitress said "WELL, I'll have to see what's left now" .... ummmmm? Again, we were stunned...
Five of us went early in August. We new this would be good when we had to wait 30 minutes to get in!It is similar to a "church hall" event which made it even better. All of us had lobster which were on the small side but none of us walked away hungry. The lobster is $32 but for $42 you get unlimited chowder and mussels plus desert and coffee. I do recommend the $42 offering. The 2 males had it and the chowder was excellent; mussels over cooed; lobster great; desert great. It is a great deal but be prepared to wait 30 minutes!
We enjoyed this casual restaurant with a view of the lake. Lobster dinner was 1/14 lbs and very sweet and fresh. The coleslaw was excellent with potatoes, rolls and salad. Another guest chose the all-you-can-eat mussels and chowder followed by great salmon. Lobster alone was $32 and bigger meal of mussels, chowder and salmon was about $49 with dessert. Both meals were very good and we would gladly go back.
This is a very busy place, and rightly so. It serves good straightforward, plentiful dishes of fish and seafood; be prepared to excavate lobster and crab yourself. We sat in the pleasant patio, apart from the large frantic dining room. We had our best Baddeck meal here and didn't have to wait too long to be served. We enjoyed bucketsful of mussels - excellent. So it is a very unimposing restaurant that only offers four entrees, Lobster, Crab, Salmon, and Steak. We had lobster with seafood chowder and mussels, really top notch. Service is prompt as they have their four choices down pat. You never wait. Nice drink choices and beer on tap
