It doesn’t look like much from the outside but oh my gosh! The food was soooo good! We had battered barramundi with chips, chicken schnitzel burger with bacon and cheese and a pineapple fritter. The batter was light and crisp, almost like a tempura batter, a perfect complement to the flaky barramundi. The chicken was also battered then topped with bacon, cheese, lettuce, tomato and beets. So messy but so delicious. The portions were huge (we took half home and the prices ridiculously low. The final topper was the pineapple fritter a juicy ring of fresh pineapple battered and fried then lightly dusted with cinnamon sugar. Kind of out of the way and out of sight if ur not local local, Balaclava Fish won the Cairns Best Fish and Chips award last year, and they’re working hard to hold on to the title. Beautiful Spanish Mackeral and Barramundi which are the local fish up here, crumbed is the Queensland way, not battered although available if that’s your preference. Great chips are a feature, and now offering flake fish for the southerners and the English, a rare offering up in far North Queensland. Say g’day to Adam and the hardworking team at Balaclava Fish.
We often enjoy fish and chips from Balaclava Fish and it is always amazing. Last night ordered crumbed, grilled and battered Fish as well as Calamari and chips for our extended family of 14 people, every single piece was perfect, and cooked right on the time we requested. Wonderful friendly service and affordable. Our whole group raved about the delicious and fresh meal. Thanks so much guys!
We get takeaway from here every couple of weeks. The fish is superb and the portions disturbingly generous for us. Standard order each time is 1 battered and 1 crumbed coral trout with small serve of chips, ordinary salt...but we're not typical eaters when it comes to quantities so you may want to go up a size with the chips. Order early if it's Friday night as they are flat out.

What great value for money, excellent service and a great couple running it So fresh, we have been going there for a couple of years and it’s stayed the same not bad for cairns Hope the had a couple of cold beers when they finished as their kitchen is really hot and smoky but a sign of how busy they are Thank you Gary
A small unassuming shop in an “off the main road” location, they offer a very limited menu but this no doubt helps them offer up the best quality food in generous serves. Pricing is good. They are super popular so best you ring and order a couple of hours before you wish to pick up your feast.
Unhygienic! My husband and I approached the affiliated fish and chip shop on hardy rd late sunday afternoon 3/4/22 to order takeaway and a female staff member was smoking in the kitchen! Will never go back again to either establishment and considering contacting the health department.
I am completely honest in saying this was the best fish Burger I have ever had. The fish was cooked to perfection, the ingredients fresh and the quality was just second to none. You can tell these guys love what they do! Amazing. Thankyou so much! We'll be back again!

Try the crumbed Coral Trout and Chips. Simply the best cooked seafood ever. The team work hard to deliver great food well priced. I have been eating dinner from there most Friday nights and it never disappoints...
