That's what we like as Melbournians ...... a converted old house in my old stomping ground, Malvern East, they were just old houses back then, now many interesting foodie joints. A bit of Reggae, hippy, happy, layback, colourful (green predominantly) combined with vintage and travelling global stuff, music was at the right volume, we can converse, thanks guys. YES, lots of bamboos everywhere, hence the name.On the food side, we've ordered four different kind of burgers; 2 beef patty and 2 chicken breast, stick with the beef. Chicken were tough, lightly marinated, not much immersion of those marinades and just didn't gel well. Beef burgers were just right; Modestly Malvern is good and Mexican...
First time going to this Cafe, I ordered a takeaway panini breakfast burger only to find maggots in the box underneath where the burger was sitting. I am sure that this was not the owners fault for this one time mistake, however today at my second experience at this cafe I am shocked at the customer service. They are unaware of the difference between an iced coffee and an iced latte, and when asked upon to remove the scoop of ice cream, received a comment "It's only a small scoop". Not only was there maggots in the containers but also horrific customer service.
Stopped here for breakfast with my son and a friend. The atmosphere is great, fab fit out with a fun environment. My son opted for a caramel milkshake which he thought was fantastic and a cake from the cabinet. We both opted for poached eggs from the 'build your own' eggs option but I was very tempted by the pancakes too. The service was great, nice to see the food being freshly prepared, the bacon tasted delicious, and the food was presented beautifully. Will absolutely return here. Could become a regular.
I called in here for the first time for lunch today, the staff here are very welcoming and checked how I was going once my meal arrived. I ordered a burger which was pretty good, very meaty and the flavors were nice, the side of wedges was also just the right size and were volcanically hot, they only cook to order here! I also started with a coffee which was equally quite good and gone very quickly!Lovely little spot for leisurely lunch or brunch.

Chris just wants to please no matter who you are, where you come from or what your expectations are. He sets his own standards, but listens to what his customers are saying, so keeps on trying new things.Coffee is certainly right up there with the best and if you want food - it will be created for you.Love the alternative areas too.

Voted on Fox fm as the best in Melbourne.The owner Chris was totally engaging and has set up a great little cafe with lots of personality.
The perfect little courtyard for a chill session. I can't believe they do Friday night music too :) Delish foods and up with the Masterchef presentation. ????
I wanted to like Bamboo Bean more as I visit an exercise studio right across the road from it and thought I would treat myself afterwards with a snack
