My son & I were on our way north from Spain back to Germany. We decided to take our chance and at 13:00, on one Monday recently we agreed to simply leave the main autoroute at the next exit and find somewhere to eat. This brought us to the town of Toul and after parking the car in a free car park just out of town, we walked to the large Place des Trois Eveches and hit upon the Bar de France. We sat at a bistrot table outside and ordered a shandy (panache) and coca cola prior to deciding to choose a lunch comprising a Croque Monsieur for my son (which I ended up eating) and a Salade Vosgienne which we both picked up but didn’t finish. Hunger on the route to Champagne from Alsace we wanted to avoid Nancy as postponed for time and decided to take off the main double lane for lunch. It was 14:00 and this place blossomed with locals. Simple food well cooked on very fair...price. We both chose the Croque Monsieur and Salat. One of the best I tasted with real Béchamel sauce! External seats and parking on the nearby square. Clean toilets and friendly service. Why stop in a service area if you can have that?
