My spouse and I are huge fans of Barrel O Candy in Virginia City. It's become one of our go-to spots for sweet treats. During our last visit, we were fortunate to be helped by two charming young ladies who were extremely helpful. The selection of taffy flavors was overwhelming, and we had a great time picking out different varieties to fill our bucket with a colorful assortment of taffy. The friendly and knowledgeable staff made our visit even more enjoyable. Barrel O Candy has definitely become a must-visit destination for us to satisfy our sweet cravings and create lovely memories together.
There are no prices and we got sucked in by the girl outside the door offering us a rootbeer candy which tasted okay. We went inside and decided we would buy some for our grandkids. Would you believe I paid $11.25USD for 8.6OZ of candy? It is not just expensive but HIGHWAY ROBBERY!!! I have not even paid that much for real Belgium chocolate! Once bitten, twice shy! I will never to back to Virginia city ever again. BUYER BEWARE!!!
It felt like being a kid in a candy store, and that phrase truly captures the experience. Interestingly, the adults enjoyed themselves just as much. There’s something magical about the barrels overflowing with sweets. We nearly misplaced all three kids and grandma in there! We ended up sitting outside for a while, wondering if they'd ever emerge. Luckily, there are benches right by the front door, which was a blessing.
This candy shop falls short of expectations and seems to be trying to take advantage of the tourist appeal of Virginia City. The selection is disappointing, and the taffy variety is particularly lacking. To make matters worse, the candy is incredibly stale. The taffy crumbles and feels like it could damage a tooth. Amazing selection of candy, you can fill a bucket of various types of candy for a fixed price. The employees were so sweet and friendly. They really know their stuff. My child had a blast picking out the different candies.
I was really disappointed! They sell expired candy at outrageous prices. I wish I had asked for a sample before spending my money. The woman working there was also unfriendly.
If you're a baby boomer like me, this place will bring back a lot of good memories. All of the old fashioned candies, and some new ones for you to try. Definitely stop in!
