While we are at Union Creek, our family has been a tradition for years. Every time the staff is super friendly and the restaurant is clean and comfortable. There was always a chance to wait, especially for lunch and dinner, but the seating is limited and historically the food and cakes are worth it. Last year and this year, employees were amazing, especially with all the challenges from recent years. One thing that changed was eating. The menu is shrunk, which is expected with a lack of personnel and supply chain problems. The prices did not seem to rise dramatically, but the quality has decreased noticeably. It's not bad, but it's no longer remarkable. My children and I all ordered burgers...
Beckie's half-sweet and slightly spiced huckleberry pie introduced me to a new flavor profile that has set a high standard for future pies I try. I asked her to go easy on the ice cream since I'm lactose intolerant; unfortunately, it seemed like they might have misunderstood, giving me more than I needed. The coffee was pretty good. I feel that Beckie may have built her reputation a bit too much around her cakes. While they're making improvements to the overall atmosphere of the cabin, there seems to be a lack of motivation to speed up service, as they're often busy seating people for tables.
My mother and I were having dinner in Clovis, NM, and it brought back memories of our summer trips to Oregon when I was a kid. She was surprised to learn that I remembered Becky’s Cafe. I told her it was hard to forget because they served the best huckleberry pie I've ever had in my life. It was so delicious that the sweet memory has stuck with me for 35 years. We enjoyed our meal together, laughing and reminiscing, and I realized how easy it was for people to still rave about that cake.
Beckies Café is a must eat when you go to the Krater Lake every dish was mouth water and the staff is so friendly. Lots of space and several windows to pick up your food so you don't have to run around. Although the real stars of the show are they cakes!!!! cream and delicious melt on the tongue slices of clouds so well I had to buy two more for the road. Love the food in Becky?s café! Such a great treat after a long tired hiking day in the forest or the Crater Lake. The frits are so good and the burger is extremely juicy. The blueberry cakes and very berry cakes taste full fruit without too much sugar. Loves this place in the middle of the forest. Large American cook for almost a century!
The story of Beckie is a little strange. You think there's a woman named Beckie, right? There was a man named Beckie. In 1938, Ed Becklehymer, known as “Beckie”, opened the restaurant. After he died, his wife ran Cecil. She was also known as Beckie and ran the place well in the 60s.
The food was quite good, with the pie slices being both large and delicious. However, the service left much to be desired; it wasn't good or great. I'm not sure if that's because they assume people will continue to come regardless...
