Von dort aus laufen Sie voraussichtlich noch eine halbe Stunde Richtung Ebenalp, bis Sie das Wegweiser zum Aescher sehen. Ich kam nach der Mittagszeit gegen 13.30 Uhr an und bekam innerhalb weniger Minuten einen schönen Tisch, von dem aus man die gesamte Gegend Richtung Seealpsee überblicken kann. I was there on a hot summer day, meet the beautiful away from the slopes through the forests and once their on the first alm, they can buy best cheese there, made in the cave. from there you probably go half an hour in the direction straightalp until you see the sign for the aescher. We woke to patches of blue sky so we thought we would try to get up to Aescher for breakfast—forgoing the hike and taking the cable car up. It turns out the ride up the mountainside itself was worth the effort. Panoramic views of the...valley and alps, dropped off at the top, making our way down to the restaurant by trail—meandering down and through a cave system... Aescher is so remote, the full time employees sleep onsite perched atop the cliffs. The meal was memorable for many reasons. The effort for one made it special. It was a cold - rainy day when we took the gondola up to hike to this restaurant. We almost decided not to do it because we weren't sure if we were going to be able to see anything and it was raining hard and windy. The hike is pretty easy - about 15 minutes and having this little restaurant at the end makes it very fun. I had the cheese rosti which are cheesy hash browns with fried eggs and bacon. - it was a lot of food and it was cooked perfectly for me. We were headed from Liechtenstein to Zurich so this was a little out of our way but were very glad we stopped. The views ended up being amazing even in the clouds and it was a fun journey.

Great view, not as good in person as in the pictures, but still a great view. Can't justify 20CHF for sausage and rosti, but it is a nice view. The miniature horses and the cave church were also cute. I wouldn't necessarily travel from the ends of the earth to see this, but if you're in the St. Gallen/ Appenzell region, it's a great way to spend a half day or so.
Seit letztem Jahr leitet ein neues Team dieses Restaurant. Das Essen ist durchschnittlich, aber das Personal ist sehr freundlich. Und die Aussicht ist unglaublich. Ich schlage vor, von Wasserauen nach Äscher zu wandern und hier einen Stopp einzulegen. Anschließend geht es mit der Seilbahn hinunter nach Wasserauen.
Fascinating place. Good is very tasty, probably because of walk and view I am wondering how they organize supplies delivering.... Definitely worth of visiting. Best way to reach this place is combination of cable car and walk
We took the seilbahn but would like to do the hike. Views were awesome and the bier and food were great! Probably better after the hike. Very impressive place that not many get to. Definitely a must if you are in the area!

Stopped here on our way down from Ebenalp to Wasserauen and enjoyed a tasty Rösti with an Appenzeller beer. Great to see how it's built into the rock. Does get busy so may need some time for a table to become available.
Although very busy the entire staff is motivated and super friendly. Beautifully decorated food served in a modern and special manner. Cute shop with local products. International crowd!
