The menu reflects a lot of thought; the appetizers have creative twists and are served in a way that allows you to enjoy them as tapas or upgrade the sides of your entrees (which usually come with a generous portion of kettle chips and a pickle). We shared the slaw, potato wedges, and spinach puffs (which are spinach dip wrapped in phyllo dough), and we were thoroughly impressed. The entrees primarily feature bierocks (which are pastry pockets filled with either meat or vegetarian options) and burgers. However, note that it’s not a gluten-free kitchen, so if you have a severe allergy or sensitivity to trace amounts, it may not be the safest choice. They also have excellent vegetarian options available.
After landing at the airport, we were looking for a place to eat, and this restaurant was a great find! It's close by and absolutely delicious! I remember my mom making bierocks when I was growing up, and it's been a while since I've made them myself. Don’t be put off by the sauerkraut in the classic version; it's quite subtle. The potato salad and kettle chips were excellent, and they had a solid selection of beers. Overall, it was a wonderful discovery, and Crystal provided really great service!
One of my favorite places. It’s never been too busy when I’ve gone, but it should be. I always get a classic bierock and a beer of some kind. They have a great beer selection and their prices are very reasonable. Bierocks are delicious and you can’t get them anywhere else in Madison as far as I know. Sides are good. The lamb bierock and fries were absolutely delicious! While the service was a bit slow for a busy Thursday night, it was completely understandable considering the type of food and the number of people there for trivia. Excellent food, great ambiance. The bartender was friendly but seemed a little lost working his way around a pretty basic cocktail, though... Possibly should have stuck to beer, of which they had a good selection.Food: 5/5
I needed a meal before the Mallards game, and this place was an excellent choice. The pasties were delicious, and the drinks were generous. Our waitress was friendly and engaging.

First time visiting.Ordered the classic Bierock. It was wonderful, and so was the ambiance. Just right for a rainy Sunday afternoon.
