I just happened to see Big Star as I drove by. On the way back I stopped to take a look at the menu. I saw so many people enjoying the sandwiches I had to try. I ordered the classics corned beef sandwich. Half a pound of meat with Swiss cheese on rye bread with grainy mustard and a home made pickle for $10.95. It was delicious. The place is new, clean and well lit. It was lunch hour and only one person making the sandwiches made it too slow. That knocked it down a notch for me. Otherwise it was excellent. A must try for those of us living in beautiful Burnaby.
The sandwiches were just okay. It seemed more like a chicken salad sandwich rather than a traditional turkey sandwich, which I didn't really care for. Additionally, I ordered a large sandwich but only received a regular size, and they also forgot to include my chips. Overall, it was not a great dining experience.
I was at Charlie's Chocolates on Canada Way and noticed Big Star Sandwich Co. next door. You can choose from hand-pulled turkey (roasted overnight) or 12 hour roasted beef or house-made corned beef. I ordered a large turkey sandwich with bacon, cheddar and (extra) guacamole. This was a most delicious sandwich!
I ordered the Number 13 sandwich, and was disappointed to find the entire sandwich was soggy with wet bread and excess water from the vegetables. The potato salad tasted terrible, and I nearly felt sick. I ended up discarding both the potato salad and most of the soggy sandwich.
I recommend trying the number 18 and number 08 turkey sandwiches at this restaurant as they are some of our favorites. The turkey is fresh and much better than deli turkey. For some added crunch, consider adding hickory chips. The portions are generous and satisfying.
I was hungry for lunch after a walk around Burnaby Lake and I'd heard of this place thanks to their Liam Neeson sign, so I figured I'd give it a try!
Great sandwiches as usual. The #11 and 27 are our go to and they never disappoint. The oatmeal raisin cookies are great too.
