Pre Christmas dinner for 4, the gals had visited the week before for a market and thought it would be good to go here for dinner. Arrived a little early, shown our table in the bar area. I thought I had booked the restaurant, this has been mentioned on other reviews.Within a couple of minutes, we were asked to choose food I asked if we could get drinks first which created some confusion. Drinks were ordered, I asked for wine and was presented with a list by bottle only. Had to visit the bar to get the glass menu. Its been some years since we last ate here and we won 't be rushing back. Service was mixed some great staff and some so inexperienced that it spoilt our enjoyment. The food was 'ok ' fish and chips were good but the pork belly not so nice and the bruschetta frankly amateur. Wine list was interesting and some decent wine by the glass. The dining room atmosphere is dreadful. The pub area somewhat better. Sorry, I want places like this to do well, but this just isn 't good enough at the moment.
We would eat and drink here more often but pate starter £9 . Steak pie chips and peas £15 and almost £5 a pint for pub food . Food average and far better with in a few mile . Shame because we like it here . Plus locals are definitely treat with more respect which we actually saw . Being on the outskirts of a caravan park it doesnt cater for this . Your better off looking elsewhere
what a perfect find in a lovely location ,we had a room in the main building and what a room, big and bright with two sash windows large comfy bed and lovely bathroom ,we ate in the restaurant can recommend the roast beef dinner ,and the breakfast was just as good with nice welcoming staff the boars head is one to remember and return to when we are back in the area

Very good food at very fair prices. Polite and friendly waiting staff. Great response to small issues raised. I had fish pie which was perfectly cooked and seasoned. My wife had coronation pie which she loved. Pastry excellent. One of the very best meals we’ve had all week (at various restaurants in the area). Couldn’t fault it.
I stayed at this hotel for two nights and dined at the restaurant on both occasions. The village near Harrogate is very charming and the hotel itself is lovely. The food was delicious. The staff, especially at breakfast, were extremely helpful, so I am giving an extra star for their excellent service.
Lovely hotel and restaurant. Stayed for one night. Walked round ripley castle. Great parking at hotel. Room really lovely. Staff nice. Dinner was absolutely lovely, too much in quantity if anything. Breakfast was great too. Early checkout out on a Sunday morning but all in all beautiful stay
We really like this hotel and have stayed many times but I am having to do this review standing by reception as wi fi coverage has to be one of the worst we have experienced in a hotel. Frustrating as everything else is great! Please get it sorted!!!!

We stayed overnight so had dinner and breakfast both very tasty.really nice small hotel with everything you may need. I would definitely recommend a stay . Its situated in a lovely area good for walkers.
After our tour of Ripley Castle, we decided to come here for a cask ale. We sat outside at a table others were having afternoon tea. Nice and relaxing place!
