Just before noon i strolled past this little fish n chip shop or so i thought. Looking for lunch and fish n chips near top of my list thought have another look. Went in and its a restaurant at the back and what a surprise i got. Had the pensioners special, Small Haddock, chips, PROPER mushy peas, Bread n butter,pot of tea. All done to perfection. only £6.75 The lady serving me was so polite and helpful. It was that nice going out for a ride out in car from Scarborough for more Its hard to find good old fashioned fish n chips but this is one of them places and worth the trip. It states its been going since 1888. Enjoy to all who go
Called in one afternoon by chance and had best fish chips I've ever had in many years. It's extremely rare these days to find fresh fish cooked in light crispy batter which isn't greasy , real home cooked chips soft in the middle, crispy on the outside and nicey browned, proper mushy peas, accompanied with bread butter and a decent pot of tea and it's a sure fire 100% winner . If ever you find yourself in Hull search this place out, the restaurant , The modern decor and the girls who work there make this place No.1 in my mind,
Excellent fish and chips from the oldest chippie in Hull- originally opened 1888 ! Its a no frills kind if place but the fish and chips were freshly fried and were top quality- lovely and crisp. I was aurprosed to see mint sauce on the counter and fresh onions soaked in vinegar- both a local tradtion for the local Hull Pattie amd available free of charge. ! Delightful staff.
Me and the family normally go to the Trinity house Bob Carvers but since we was up that way decided to go to this one. AWFUL. The walls had food up them, staff where rude and it seemed like they just wanted us to leave. The fish was dry and smelled funny and the chips where hard. Having visited this place numerous times and never before been disappointed I can only give this review based on my most recent experience which was way below average, soggy burned oil drenched chips which can only be described as inedible! Will give it a miss in future and would suggest you do to.
Today my brother and I had lunch at Bob Carvers and the Pensioner's Special was just right. Not too much and not too little. Having said that we both had a breadcrumb pattie on the side and it, together with the fish and chips, were superb. Staff were friendly and cheerful. Highly recommended
I cannot stress how good this place is, have never used the restaurant but always treat myself to a takeaway at least once a month and never lets me down, chips are perfect and the value for money is great, a must try when in Hull
Called in mid afternoon. I do wish I hadn't bothered!! Staff disinterested. Chips were Dire! Luke warm- must have been under a lamp for ages ! Very greasy. I suspect old fat too? They were not good. Reserviere jetzt einen Tisch
Decent portions, decent prices. Is it the best in Yorkshire? It’s not even the best in Hull. But if your passing, give it a go and decide yourself.
