While it’s located in a strip mall, it’s beautifully decorated and captures a lot of Japanese aesthetics. The interior is both spacious and welcoming, with booths along the walls for those who prefer a bit more privacy while dining. The service was prompt and attentive. I was particularly interested in the various veggie sushi rolls, so in addition to my usual avocado and cucumber rolls, I tried a veggie roll with oshinko and yuba, which was delicious. I definitely regret not having come here sooner. However, I have a feeling we’ll be back in the area occasionally, so this place will definitely remain on my list!
This is our first time here. We were in the neighborhood so we thought we'd try it. It has great reviews. It appears to be a local chain with a l, ll, and lll in Dutchess county. I'm a bit disappointed. For us it's a typical Japanese-American restaurant. Tried a shrimp tempura bento box. The de rigueur: four inside-out California rolls, vegetables that could have used a longer drip time, and not be buried under the lid the shrimp made causing them to get soggy, two tiny gyoza like dumplings, and a side salad. The miso soup was good, and on a chilly damp day it's good.
Still my go-to for good sushi in the neighborhood! This was the first time I've dined in in years and the experience was pleasant enough. Food came out super fast the ambience is very nice. Waitress was a bit pushy with trying to take food away while my daughter was still eating but otherwise it was fine. The lunch special prices are a steal! Chicken teriyaki was delicious I've taken out the salmon teriyaki bento box, they really do a good job not only with the protein but veggies as well.
Lunch combos are the best deal if you can come here at the specific lunch hours I recommend it! The service is always quick and everyone is friendly. I've been going to the original bonsai for years and started using bonsai 2 more recently. It's all the same great food. I loved trying the yummy roll which is crab, lobster and shrimp. Bonsai II is my favorite sushi restaurant in the Hudson Valley, and I've been a loyal customer for over a decade now! Their sushi is so fresh and competitively priced compared to other sushi places nearby, the staff are very friendly, and the atmosphere is cozy. Some of my favorites are the salmon sashimi, spicy scallop avocado roll, kani salad, rock shrimp tempura, Yakimaki roll, and gyoza. I have yet to find better sushi in the area!
Meh. The service (Violet) was excellent, the food is not good at all. The sushi was similar to what you'd get in a grocery store or an airport: filled with panko, salmon is not a salmon but some sort of filler paste, eel is not eel. I would not recommend this place for sushi. And it's not cheap. For someone coming from miami, we pay same for much better quality of fish. Do not recommend.
Not really authentic Japanese cuisine, but it is the best we've got in the area, so far. TIP: if you've got more than three or four people, it's worthwhile to get the party platter. Cost per person will probably be reduced. Also unless you're getting the party platter, I Recommend dining in rather than taking out.
Now, onto the food—very impressive! I ordered a spicy tuna roll that really had a nice kick to it, and I appreciated the crunchy topping instead of it being mixed in as filler. Service can be somewhat inconsistent. During my visit yesterday, we weren't greeted upon arrival and chose our own seats at the chef's station. The wait staff was neither particularly friendly nor unfriendly—just indifferent. Nevertheless, the food was delightful. I would recommend this restaurant.
