My daughter and I where looking for something different to do and she heard about Boxcar Cafe, they had games we could play while having a bite to eat.When arriving there was a large table of ladies having a blast drinking wine eating and playing a game (not sure what but sounded fun for a large group).We looked at the 300 games and played Janga and shipwreck fun games for two people. We had the salted caramel cheese cake. It was realy good I had a iced hot chocolate, and my daughter had an Italian Soda (cola). One of the new board game cafés in Calgary, where you can play board games while enjoying a coffee and a snack. We are huge board game fans, so we decided to check this newly opened hidden gem out. The café is rather small, so during peak hours it might be tricky to find a table. We came when there was ample space and got to try 3-4 different games! The food is also very good, there's mostly just sandwiches and smaller bites, but all very tasty - we had the taters, the brie, and the cheese sandwich. Our server (Greg) was very knowledgeable and friendly - we will definitely be back!
amazing service! there was only one man who worked at the time when we went and he made sure that we had everything we needed and was very helpful in explaining games, etc. we also have the baked good that was great! total 10/10, will definitely return. I would recommend a reservation in advance as the caffe itself is quite small, so there are limited space available.
Was in town for a conference and wanted a good place to hang out with friends for the evening. Board games are a passion of ours and we frequent our local boardgame cafes. Boxcar came up in the Google search for local cafes and seemed like a good fit. A very small space, with a limited selection of games, but they had the classics, good coffee, and decent snacks.

Such a fun place to go to play bird games. Played a few new ones. Enjoyed the delicious tater tot poutine. Can’t wait to go back. Staff was friendly and very helpful with game selection and explanations.
I returned to this restaurant for the second time to grab a latte while in the area. Their latte is delicious and they are skilled at creating fancy artwork on top.

The drinks were expensive and nothing special. There was no food/snacks. The tables were very small. I would not return.
