So, where to start with this review? When we arrived, we had requestsd a table upstairs hoping to take in the view of the village center. Instead, we were shown a two-top table wedged between the wall and the staircase, then told that it was the only table available. When I went upstairs to use the rest room, I saw plenty of other tables open. THEN I watched the same waitress show other guests upstairs. But worse than that, I watched the same waitress show another couple to a more comfortable 4-top table just across from us that was empty when we walked in. Really? But this lunch gets even better! There are probably dozens of restaurants within Guerande's town walls serving galettes and moules/frites at lunch-time. We picked this one simply because the weather was awful and we wanted to get indoors, quickly. HOWEVER ... it turned out that we made a good choice, and had a wonderful lunch! Inside was bustling and characterful; the service was friendly and attentive, and the food excellent. I had a galette, my husband had moules/frites, and our young son had "menu enfant", which, unusually - but refreshingly - offered fish. (Almost everywhere we ate on holiday only offered steak hache (aka burger) or chicken nuggets, so the fish was most welcome).
My wife and I had dinner in the centre during the stay in Guerande. The weather turned slightly cooler, so the interior was packed. It appeared mainly locals and had to wait about 20 minutes for a table above. My wife had a seafood salad plate and I had fish and chips, followed by a desert shield for both of us. We also share a carafe of white wine. My wife really enjoyed the seafood and my fish was thrilled. The waiters worked really hard, but still had a friendly attitude. We can definitely recommend eating here. Larry
A kind fellow patron helped our small group with the menu. It was, after all, only our second dining experience in France. I ended up with essentially a hamburger covered with a crepe and sauced with cheese, and, of course, frites! Utterly charming experience and tasty food.Date of Visit: 19Feb2013

Having enjoyed the walk about, we settled down in this comfortable brasserie and ordered a half litre of Chinon - a red wine from the Loire which is not much seen in England. Quite delicious and worthy of a better acquaintance. Pity we didn't have time for the other half.
This is our 4th visit to this restaurant. We went back every time we get to Brittany on holiday. Food and service is wonderful. They are very accommodating for English. Cafe gourmande is the best we ever tasted. Can't recommend... place high enough.
I never had such enormous moules as I did here. The moules marinieres are truly excellent! Certainly enough to share as well. Service was good and they weren't expensive. I highly recommend them but the other dishes looked good also
Great lunch. I had mussels and got loads. It was really busy which is a good sign. Right in the centre of the walled town it is a great place to stop. They were able to help with English when our French came unstuck.

Fantastic restaurant, at a fair budget.We had fresh fish cooked to perfection and a devine chocolate dessert.Super resto. Produits frais et de qualité et serveur très sympa.
Friendly service and beautiful desserts. That's it. The meat was very bad quality very hard steak. The fishing was disappointing.
