Brasserie Le Commerce

We were looking for food on Monday at noon. Apart from some people who drink outside, nobody was in there. We were asked if we had made a reservation. No. We were told it was full. Any chance of eating? No. The kitchen was closed. A box or a bowl of olives? No. The guy who served us was much more interested in connecting his mates to another table. We had a drink and the change. Four hungry adults and two hungry children left. By mutual agreement, there was no greeting or confirmation as we moved away. I can't say I'd ever go back. I think I'd rather be hungry.

Brasserie le Commerce is a great asset to the small town of Montmorillon. It's friendly and relaxed, and has a wider range of food than many French brasseries. The food is straightforward with nothing fancy on the menu. But if you're hungry and want a quick - or slow - lunch it's ideal.I undertand that it is also open in the evenings and holds music evenings that are well regarded locally.It's vegetarian friendly and can be highly recommended.

The food is simply with nothing imagination on the menu. But if you are hungry and want a quiet or slow lunch, it is ideal. I sign that it is also open in the evening and keeps music evenings that are well viewed on site. It is vegetarian friendly and can be highly recommended.

Nous avions choisi le menu du jour, sans doute aurait-t-il été plus opportun de prendre la carte; c'était correct, sans plus. Le lundi soir n'est sans doute pas le meilleur moment, mais le restaurant gastronomique était fermé.

Ce n'est pas de la grande cuisine mais le cadre est sympa et la patronne ageeable. Content de trouver ce genre de "restau" dans un petit village.
