My wife and I have been visiting this restaurant annually, sometimes twice a year, whenever we're on Vancouver Island. It has always been a wonderful place for fish and chips as well as other English-style dishes. However, it seems there has been a recent change in ownership. The restaurant is now only half its original size, but the food is still enjoyable. That said, we are a bit worried about the prices. My husband, son, and I had a disappointing experience during our visit to this restaurant. The server's child sat at our table throughout our meal and even tried to take food from my son's plate. The server made no attempt to have their child leave our table, which made us feel quite uncomfortable. Moreover, the food was overcooked, and the fries had an unpleasant taste, reminiscent of stale, fishy oil.
We had a fantastic time last night savoring a genuine British pie with our family. We chose the vegan option, which was simply exceptional. My partner, who hails from England, truly enjoyed the ambiance and adored the pie, which came with chips, peas or beans, and a lovely gravy. The delightful and friendly server enhanced our experience, and we can confidently say we will be coming back!
The restaurant has an amazing atmosphere, and the owner was incredibly kind and welcoming. The fish and chips were okay; the batter was the perfect thickness, but it did taste a bit burnt. I decided to drop in for some Fish and Chips, and with a native Brit accompanying me, it was hard to say no. The lunch special is a fantastic deal. The fish was delicious, and the chips were pretty good as well. The mushy peas were a highlight! The atmosphere really enhances the charm of the restaurant, although the service could be a bit slower than I had hoped.
The food at this restaurant is pretty standard pub cuisine. It used to be a great place for fish and chips years ago, but unfortunately, that's no longer true. The chips were not freshly cut, were overcooked, and had a somewhat woody flavor. The fish was alright, but you had to get past the batter to really appreciate it.
British Bobby was a fantastic place for fish and chips. Although they had other items on the menu, the halibut and fries were my personal favorites. Sadly, the small mall where it was located was destroyed by a fire on November 9, 2022.
