I had previously rated Burlews a well-deserved 5 stars, but am editing my review due to my unexpected negative experience there tonight. My girlfriend and I had invited our good friend to join us at our favorite comfort food oasis, Burlew 's. We had been patronizing this Keyport gem for years and were eager for her to join us in what we had expected to be the usual great time with tasty food, lively music and good drinks. After ordering 3 entrees, multiple drinks, an appetizer and coffee, we asked for the check and readied ourselves to leave. I had an exceptional dining experience during lunch. The food was outstanding, earning a perfect score of 5. Every dish was thoughtfully prepared and bursting with flavor. The service was equally impressive, also deserving a 5, with attentive and friendly staff who made us feel welcome throughout our meal. The atmosphere was simply wonderful, creating a perfect setting for a leisurely lunch, which is why I give it a 5 as well. Overall, this restaurant exceeded my expectations in every aspect!
We order a Scallops sandwich, soft shell crab sandwich and fried calamari. The fried Calamari was so oily and under cooked. The scallops sandwich was so sad, 6 scallops with a bit of old bay and lettuce, tasteless.$22 for that sandwich. The soft shell crab tasted old. The only ipa they had was on cane and the ****** Mary was a mix that was bought not made at the restaurant. Honestly never going there again.
The food was quite tasty, but personally, I found it a bit lacking in flavor. I prefer dishes with a bit more spice or heat. Since it's a seafood restaurant, it's understandable that they ran out of some ingredients, especially if they prioritize freshness. The server's recommendations were spot on, though. My family went here for the first time on Saturday for an early dinner. We were seared right away and our drink orders were taken. We had a few questions about an item, which the waitress got the answers for. The food was all good and tasted fresh. I did notice that the waitress never refilled our drinks. That was a minor thing and we'll definitely be back. Service: Dine in
Our awesome server Brianna was really great. She made sure everything was perfect. We were there to celebrate my wife's birthday. And this will be something to remember.
