In fairness, there. Is not much to the service. You wait in line and place your order. You’re given a number to put on the table and the order is dropped off. Nothing very personal about it. There is not very much seating or space inside the shop, so most customers are seated where ever they can find a spot on a very charming courtyard that is well shaded. My husband had the breakfast sandwich on a croissant which was HUGE! He almost never has anything left and this time he did, and he enjoyed it so I know he would have finished it if he could. Not really a fan of the food or pastry at Café Beignet. To be honest, I was a bit disappointed as I expected excellent product and found only mediocre food. The people behind the counter seemed impatient with the visitors. We ordered beignets with powdered sugar, a pecan tart, and a palmier. The beignets were thick and heavy, not soft and fluffy. They’re more of a New Orleans beignet and not a French beignet. The palmier was huge and covered at the top with chocolate, but completely undercooked. Totally white, no crispness at all. The get two stars on the atmosphere, because I love birds, not due to staff. We were there on June 14 in the am. The staff was rude and sarcastic. The gentleman working there was its staff's saving grace. He tried so hard to cover for the poor behaved female staff I felt sorry for him. The beignets were cooked enough outside, but raw and doughy inside, not edible. Several tables around us could be heard talking of raw dough, ours were no different. Sadly no one was going to deal with the rude staff to inform them of the problem. My guess, that was what had set them off to begin with before we arrived. We just left.
It's nice that they start serving early in the morning. However, their beignets were very doughy. At the same time, eating on a plastic plate is not a nice experience at all. We enjoyed a causal breakfast at the cafe. Be prepared to stand in line on the weekends and sit outside, which may be very hot humid. Inside seating is limited and the service is counter orders only.
Caught some beignets and coffee on a Wednesday morning before the crowds came in for the weekend. Delicious beignets that rivaled cafe du monde. Coffee was good too!
