Just passing through and stopped at this local Cafe. All-in-all, the food was okay. Nothing fancy, some items previously frozen as opposed to "fresh," some pre-made things. This isn't a restaurant where things are made fresh on-site (except for slicing the bread, arranging the salad plate, etc). Like others, we were unable to eat everything. It was quite a bit of food. Appetizer, main course (choice between two dishes.), dessert, and wine. 17Euro each. We were not given a choice for dessert, but that didn't matter much. The young couple who run the place were friendly enough ... the locals who come to the bar, also friendly ... especially when you are able to speak the language.
Visited Saint Hilaire on a Sunday and unlike most establishments, this one was open. Freindly couple, eager to please and the service was very good. Good tasting french food. Set menu of three course with wine for €15. Quantity wasn't a problem as we couldn't finish it. Quality tasted fresh, chicken, meats, salads. 4 options for desert on the set menu which was refreshing. Bar in the restaurant was seperate but a lively little town watering hole come lunch time. Directly across the road from the Abbey, for which were were there to visit. Recommend supporting the new owners of this establishment.
Went there on a Saturday evening. Greeted the owner, went and sat down and were totally ignored for twenty minutes, until three Austealians who had booked came and sat at the next table. Eventually a waiter appeared and started to take their order. When we protested, we were told we had not booked and would have to wait until everyone who had booked had been served and that he would then "see what he could do". Would have been nice to be warned when we went in. Needless to say, we left in disgust
This bar restaurant is brilliant value for money. The food comes in copious quantities and there is a wide choice on the menu from pizza to three course meal. I can highly recommend the 15 euro menu which includes starter, main course, dessert and wine. The owners are very friendly and welcoming, I would definitely recommend eating here. We loved it!!
Talking about value for money! The daily set lunch is only 12 Euro and brings appetiser, main course, dessert and a "pichet" of wine (YES, that is 2 glasses!). To give you a taste, I include a picture of appetiser and dessert. Fabulous! Another thing: that price will remain, even during the high season.Perfect combination with a visit to the Abbaye!
We have had another great meal at the Cafe Abbaye restaurant. Our choice this time was the mixed platter of Steak.Chicken,pork with fries and a super drizzled salad .Lots of fresh tomatoes. Soft and suculent meat with lighly spiced flavours.All enjoyed with a delightfuly refreshing rosé from with in the valley.
Food was amazing! Service was amazing! We ate here twice during our stay in Saint Hilaire and would definitely come again thank you!
Relatively expensive and down at heel untidy looking. We decided not to lunch here and drove on to Limoux centre for lunch.
Great little village bar cafe. Visited one Monday evening while a local brass band were playing.
