I was looking for a lunch spot to quickly grab something to eat. I came a across California Sandwiches and decided to try it out. I ordered a meatball sandwich with a side of fries $17.49). Portions for both were decent for the cost. Zero complaints on the fries. They were perfectly crispy! As for the sandwich, some work could be done. The taste was there note you can select the spicy level of the sandwich I picked hot). The sandwich was cold which was disappointing and the bun vs meatballs didn’t work. All the meatballs kept falling out at every bite that I had to resort to using a fork to split the sandwich in half and cut it with a knife to make each bite. I would say my first experience...
Simply the best panini. The quality of the ingredients speak for themselves and consistently have been for many years now. Everything is fresh, cooked the order, and the tomato sauce is always bright, balanced, and flavourful. Go for the chicken, veal, steak, or eggplant get it with provolone and med/hot peppers you can’t go wrong. For the steak, I recommend the sauce on the side. It’s my go to for many years, and will continue to be. Hats off to everyone there for doing such a great job and serving the community. Much respect.Vegetarian options: Eggplant panini
Not the greatest experience to be honest. Girl at the cash with too much attitude. She looked like she didn’t want to be there. Anyways we got our veal sandwiches within 5 minutes. That was the only bonus really. The veal was tough. I asked for extra jalapeño peppers and extra hot which it wasn’t. Also not enough of your wonderful sauce on the sandwich. Having been a fan of California sandwiches for over 20 years now, I was pretty disappointed with todays visit.
A chain snadwhich shop that feels local. Sandwiches are large and made with fresh ingredients. You get to pick your meat (chicken or veal) and your choice of six different toppings. The choice of sides are salads, fries, and onion rings. Their tomato sauce is available for purchase in jars. The dining room is large with new on the TV. Parking lot is small.

Used to be my favorite location... now i think its not good at allChicken was slightly pink, sent it back... better but still slightly pink... had diarrhea most of the nightPlus portions were tiny compared to long agoToo bad... it was a good run
steak was a bit chewy. Veal and chicken were good. I ordered the veal medium in terms of spice, and it arrived sweet. Tiramisu was amazon. Olives are good. Fries are more like frozen fries than homemade. Portions are very large for the price.
Greatest sandwiches in the city, back in the day they used to be so much cheaper and affordable but I guess you can blame Trudeau for the fact we’re paying over 15$ for a Veal Sandwich.Still worth it every once and a while!
Always a great place to get a uniquely Toronto Italian style sandwich. No where else in the world does it this way. And as good as the original downtown location. I should know as I remember when it opened. A Toronto must!
