My wife and I stopped one evening at this site on our way to the channel tunnel.Other reviews would suggest that the owner is gruff, rude and unhelpful. We saw none of this he is clearly a character but was fine. The other reviews also say that the food here is brilliant. It is. There were four choices for each of three courses on the chalkboard. All clearly prepared fresh on site. All for €19Toilets and other amenities on site were clean and in good order. The owner does have two large dogs which roam the site during the day. As soon as dinner was available (1930) the owner put the dog as away. And we didn't see the reported dog poops all around the site. The pitches are large with well est...
Visited the site for 5 nights in August 2016, it's about 40 minutes away from the tunnel, the site only has one shower block, this houses a single shower and a disabled shower, a washing machine room, a baby changing/washing room, three toilets and a washing up room, each plot is hedged with power, water and a bin supplied, THERE IS NOT DOG MUCK ALL OVER THE SITE, however if there was I would suggest the owners of the dog should clean it up, the owner Guy is miserable (typical french man in my view) and he has two dogs but they don't roam the site capping everywhere, they hardly leave the club house.The club house serves meals and drinks, there is a play area inside with ping pong and a chil...
We have been coming to this campsite since it was founded 19 years ago and it gets prettier and prettier as the trees, shrubs and flowers mature. It is surrounded by beautiful countryside ideal for cycling. St Omer is a lovely town and just a few kilometres away. The bar and restaurant include table tennis, table football and lots of other typically Flemish games and when the sun shines there is a pool, mini golf, fishing and other outdoor games. Bernadette is a fantastic cook. Her tarte maroille is a 'must'! Guy is accompanied everywhere by the delightful big dogs, bouviers de Flandre, that give the restaurant its name. On arrival met by man with cigar smoking in reception, unwelcoming and aggressive in nature. Shown to pitch and it was covered in dog muck.Went to restaurant indoors and stank of smoke, girl behind bar smoking un hygienic so didn't bother.In morning man with cigar and two dogs off leads allowed them to **** outside our door on our pitch I complained and he shrugged his shoulders and walked off. One dirty shower, toilets broken, washing area filthy and uncleaned. Had booked for 4 nights left after two. No bank cards accepted. La Chaumiere is a lovely place to stay, with fantastic private pitches with hard standing and a 'jardin privée' for each one. Facilities are great and the owners are very friendly and helpful. The local village is close and has a bar and a very nice estaminet, but no shops. However, the on-site restaurant is good and not expensive. The steak, in particular, was excellent. There is a small swimming pool, which is well maintained and a fishing pond. The area has great walks. Overall, this is a great place to stay. Recommended.
It started with the warm welcome from Guy and Bernadette. The sun was shining the pitch enjoyed this to the full. Hardstanding to park the Motorhome, lovely grassed area as we stepped out to place BBQ, table and chairs, still plenty of room to spread out and sunbathe. Peaceful site in a rural location. Bonhomie aplenty at the camp bar and restaurant, or more further afield, St Omer just 4 miles away for instance. No hurry, no hassle, good facilities, breathe, relax and enjoy.
Le camping est calme, parfait pour se reposer.Malheureusement, il manque cruellement d'entretien.Quant à l'accueil, il laisse vraiment à désirer. Le patron est plutôt antipathique. L'entrée de son établissement est bien surveillée.Nous avons rebroussé chemin pour manger sur place, l'endroit semblait sale et mal odorant, en adéquation avec l'état du camping.
Charming campsite with a great Restaurant. Guy and Bernadette do their utmost to ensure your stay is a happy one. We have been coming here a few times a year for more than 15 years.
