Upon recommendation of one of the local merchants – where we bought a pair of alpargatas and two pairs of house slippers – we decided to try Casa Andrea for lunch. We managed to get one of the few free tables at around p.m....and could see that the restaurant was popular both with Spanish locals and with some of the many English expats living in the area. Our friendly server was quick and efficient, and while enjoying our menu del día we had the choice between watching what was going on in the kitchen – visible from the dining room – or watching Spanish television, which typical for local taverns was on above our heads. Went there on a Saturday night around and the place was empty when we left at there were still only of us in the restaurant. Having said that, despite having the atmosphere of a morgue, the food is really quite good...and the staff very friendly and helpful, portions are large and the prices reasonable is right at the end of the main drag and does not look inviting but once in the restaurant is well furnished and delightful. However, the Italian opposite was packed both inside and out, difficult to see what Casa Andrea is doing wrong.
my man and I, after years of passing through the restaurant, and hearing good things about it, finally went to lunch. it was Sunday and with us were the only people eating. there were many people at the bar. eating was expensive and inconspicuous. the waitress was kind as the cook, but the food was subpar. I ordered the filet mignon and it was as dry as shoe leather. no oil, no sauce has smoked only paprika and salt. my man got the duck, the fat was not made and the meat was like leather. I'm sorry, but never again.
If you are looking for a superb homestyle spanish cooking you can get it at Casa Andrea. Very friendly service, tries to explain with all possible ways whats on todays menue if you don't understand spanish. Sometimes this gets into a really funny situation. Had two wonderful meals here, first was a group of us that got together for a Christmas meal. The second time was with my family at christmas. Both meals were really good and the steak was so tender, it simply melted in your mouth. The...only downside is, there is no outside space.
