Second year on visiting this pub! Having camped at the local caravan park near by! Booked a seat outside in the garden( the tables were so sticky my hands stuck to them! staff brilliantly happy to serve! But? There was a long que outside at the outdoor bar, so I thought ah ha ? I’ll go indoors and see if there’s a que? Firstly I couldn’t get to the bar because all local Cornish dwellers were parked up against the bar blocking it! When I did get the attention of the chap serving he said sorry we don’t have any vodka behind the bar here? Go outside to the other bar? So back to the long que yet again? The food? Just back from our third visit to this amazing pub. We’ve stayed in several fantastic hotels and pubs in the area over the years. But the Castle has become a firm favourite. Just on the edge of the moor, it’s a good base for walking. The pub itself it cozy and welcoming with friendly and attentive bar staff. As always the food was fantastic. Portion sizes were good and it’s great value for money. The venison was delicious and my wife’s fish was huge and perfectly cooked. All the waiting staff are lovely and the service is great. The rooms over the road have been recently renovated and are really comfortable. So much so, that after our last stay we ordered the same bed once we got home. Looki...
We visited The Castle Inn during August after a Trip to Lydford Gorge. We had spotted the pub earlier when out cycling and had stopped off on that occasion for a couple of beers. On this occasion despite dropping in before the restaurant opened the staff were more than happy to speak with us and found us a table, gave advice re parking and found colourings for our children, The staff were great, efficient and attentive without faffing and mithering. The service was smart and timely without feeling rushed and too fast. The menu was quite small something I always think is a good thing, you know what's on the menu has to be good... And it was. Even the kids food wasn't the usual el-cheapo pasta...
Too many people are allowed to bring dogs in to a restaurant area in a pub in my opinion.I dont like numerous dogs watching us eating.This is the allowed norm thesedays.So called cauliflower cheese portion(reasonably priced)but wrinkled cauliflower sat in runny sauce below. The staff didn't ask if our meal was OK,even senior staff,others were asked.Elderly lady waitress was unhelpful,younger male staff had no charisma,operating like robots.V disappointing.We go here periodically+get a very warm welcome from the lady in the bar normally.We might return when the holiday season has passed as we live nearby. Disappointed evening had booked and was exited as heard so much about the place. The food was expensive but I don't mind that if its great quality. The portion size was very small no vegetables only broccoli as an extra so we ordered dinner the food was tasty but no broccoli, I asked a waiter and he said the chef had forgot (I guess no one normally had vegetables with there meal). The broccoli arrived after we had finished and was burnt to a crisp. Waiters seemed ok just disappointed evening all round not what I expected. I did not pay for the broccoli and will not go back.
We had a fantastic and unexpected experience at Castle Inn. The staff was incredibly welcoming and friendly. The meals for both dinner and breakfast were top-notch, with excellent menu options. The room was both clean and beautifully decorated. Ben, in particular, provided exceptional service. He was not only very friendly, but also very knowledgeable. Ben truly exceeded our expectations and is a great asset to your establishment.
The restaurant is located in a charming old building next to a castle, but I don't think it's worth the £120 price. The staff were not very friendly. The food was delicious, but pricey. The small double room we stayed in was dog-friendly, but the bed was very uncomfortable. The travel gift for the dog was a nice touch.
We were lucky to find a fantastic pub/restaurant just a mile away from our holiday accommodation. The food, wine, and beer were excellent. The staff was delightful and friendly. Been before and they have lots of veggie/dairy and gluten free options. Georgina served us and was very friendly, very nice pub
