Bustling double shop in one of Melbourne's little lane ways. We went on a Tuesday night and place was packed. We left our name on thr clipboard by the entrance and went for a drink as thr line was pretty long. But when we came back after 40 mins, everyone before us was in and about 10 more names after us! We didn't realise that the queue moved so quickly. We apologised to the hostess and was sat immediately on the next available table.We got the pork belly set which is 8 slices of pork belley marinated 8 ways. I came here with a mate no booking late Saturday evening. We were seated straight away. We chose the Pork selection and it was really great. The only flavour we didn't like was the Pork marinated in herbs, I found that the herbs were over bearing and better suited to chicken. We also had some type of seafood hotpot which was delicious! They were very generous with the condiments and happy to give more Kim chi when asked. The staff were very attentive. The total bill was $84 with a jug of Japanese beer. So we were pretty happy with the price as we were stuffed by the end of the meal. Definitely worth a try would love to come back again sometime.
We ordered the beef set which consists of 3 types of beef bbq, 2 white rice and a soup. The kimchi soup taste very diluted, while the meat are just average taste. We have tasted better Korean beef BBQ before. The appetisers are very lacking in taste and variety. They gave us a pickled onion, which tasted awful and a spicy kimchi cabbage (this is the only edible ones).The environment is just like any other Korean BBQ restaurant. Be prepared to smell like BBQ when you walk out from the restaurant. Place was very crowded. The service was quite bad. Korean BBQ is good on a cold winter night.
This BBQ den tucked in a quiet little Latrobe Street seems very popular specially with the young, judging from its patrons and the playing of loud thumping music. Service was quick and fuss free but expect to queue if you are not early enough. The merits of this place : everything kimchi - from the kimchi appetizer, kimchi stew, kimchi pork to the kimchi pancake. We very much preferred the 8-Flavour pork to the beef. At first, I was quite upset to see three sad side dishes (scrappy kimchi, sliced onions in vinegar and bits and pieces of radish swimming in deep vinegary broth) for what was supposed to be my big birthday meal, as these were probably the worst side dishes I've ever seen in a Korean restaurant. Then the quality meat made me feel slightly better. Still, for the amount we paid, I would have gotten way more somewhere else. Never again and do not recommend to others.
We found the place by chance. I'd walked past a closed, unnamed restaurant and thought it looked like it has closed down. I walked back 30 mins later to find it almost full and decided to try it. While I've been to Korea I can't say I'm an expert of Korean food but the staff were very friendly and helped us order and the bbq was the best I've had - and really great value. By the time we left there was a large queue. Very popular and we had no doubt as to why.
We only chose this restaurant as it was close to our hotel but so glad we ate here. Great food, service and prices very reasonable. unique decor, and everybody else eating appeared to be Korean, which always is a good sign! Wait staff very helpful as we had never done bbq before and were not sure of the etiquette, they happily helped us learn. We tried two beef varieties, pork with tofu and rice. Would happily return!
The fact that we had to wait 30 minutes for a chair shows just how popular this place is. We had the Pork Belly Set with 8 different flavours, all as good as the next. A great experience for anyone who has never been, and the food is delicious❤. The Beef set is good, kimchi is good. Japjae is sweeter than other places. But I personally like it still. The only downside is you need to wait in queue. I went there on Friday night 6.30pm. I didn't know that we have to write our name down the paper hung near the main entry. Had I known it earlier, I could have gotten in faster.
