Char used to be our go to, we either ate in or ordered at least once a week for our family of seven. I don 't know what happened. Did they change their meat supplier? Just don 't care any more? I 'm disgusted that I paid so much money for this horrendous piece of grizzle, fat and sinew! Look at my photos, once the bone, fat and silver skin were cut off, there was not much meat left but it was medium rare so I was hopeful. Now I know this Steak should be marbled, but this was ridiculous, there was a little piece of the middle of the steak left. Even the meat that was left was a joke I could not cut a SINGLE piece of meat without hacking away with my knife because the entire thing had tendons...
This isn't our first visit and we periodically return for special occasions. It is pricey and all items are a la carte so we only come on special occasions. We dined on our anniversary and the ambiance, service and food were very good. Service was impeccable by Anthony and he was very attentive. Food was great starting with the bread service and shared salad. I ordered chicken Milanese and I'm so excited they offer more than steak options and added on chicken choices to the menu. Delicious food and great atmosphere! This restaurant in Red Bank is a must-visit. They have both outdoor and indoor seating options. Despite not having a reservation on a busy summer night, they were able to accommodate my party of 4. We sat outside and enjoyed people watching while sipping on drinks. The spicy watermelon margarita was a disappointment as it lacked spice and was watered down, same with my mom's margarita. However, the appetizers (fried calamari, tuna tartare, Kobe meatballs, mixed field greens salad) were all delicious. Went the cheap route with French onion soup (bland broth, generous cheese and thankfully a descent amount of onions). Then the Main course (for the frugal night) had the char salad with salmon add on. I Would expect the eggs to be organic at the least, but tasted like the 48 pack you buy for $12. Simple minimal add ons in the salad that were average. Ate the salmon, descent small portion of fish. But the best part was having a fish bone lodged in my tonsil after the third bite to top off the night. First time for this to happen with salmon. Won't be coming back : paid nearly $400 for 3 of us, the waitstaff was very nice but the food wasn't worth nearly what I paid.. The drinks should be way better for nearly $20 a drink.. just overall very disappointing. Damn shame. $8-9 for Sparkling water thats more the a beer on tap!?! I had high expectations when we arrived at the restaurant, but they were exceeded. We ordered a variety of drinks, including a Chargarita, Gin and Tonic, and a Char Martini. For appetizers, we enjoyed fresh bread from the bread board, Calamari, and Lobster dumplings. Our main courses included a Delmonico 14 oz ribeye, NY strip 14 oz, and Meat potatoes. For dessert, we indulged in Afogato, Char espresso with tequila, Cappuccino, and Espresso. Our server was attentive and fantastic, and the atmosphere was lively with everyone having a great time. I can't wait to go back and try more of their delicious menu offerings. Amazing food.
The food, service, and atmosphere are all crucial factors, and Char excels in all of them. We tried the lobster mac and cheese as a side dish (don't knock it till you try it) and the Delmonico steaks with creamy spinach. Everything was cooked perfectly and packed with delicious flavors. The bartender, Mike, was attentive and skilled at crafting delicious cocktails. I highly recommend this restaurant for a delicious and affordable steak experience.
Food was great service was on the slow side. It was date night and atmosphere was horrible. Seated next to a bar with pots pans clashing and and it's so loud inside I couldn't have a conversation with my wife without literally raising your voice entire time. Amazing food, the steak was cooked perfect and the mac and cheese was to die for! The creamed spinach was also delicious. The ambience is really nice the inside is very modern, the service is very good as well, all around no complaints and will definitely be back.
