"We were taken to this restaurant by a local Sancerre wine representative. The reviews that I just reread from 2019 are spot on, 2 years later. This was a delightful slice of local people, food and ambience. The servers were very hard working and efficient. So glad it is still in the family and we were able to enjoy it on our trip. Due to the amount of people having lunch, I am sure it will be there for many years to come."

Came across this very unpretentious restaurant during our day of wine tasting and what a fantastic find. A warm welcome even though we hadn’t booked (as recommended) I love a good table cloth and proper serviettes and it delivered on both, we loved the feel of the place and how friendly everyone was. Then the food arrived and it was one of the best meals I’ve had in France, my friend and I opted for the lamb which was melt in the mouth, my husband had the chicken in tarragon which he said was delicious, all were served with crispy roast potatoes and fresh braised endive and a roasted tomato. Visited Cheu l’Zib with a group of British farmers as guests of a local company hosting us on a training course. We were around 12 at the table but this was n9 trouble, for the hosts who had several other big tables going. The food was superb, some of the best homemade French cuisine I’ve ever had with the local delicacy of pike in cream sauce the speciality. The restaurant also does an extensive line in local wines from the Menetou Salon appellation. The cheese board was also amazing with a good range of Berrichon goats cheeses. Inside is very rustic, and old wood burner and bar forming the centre piece of the big table d’hote. If ever I’m back in this region of France would definitely book...
I have missed this restaurant on my trips but Wow am I happy to have found it. Don’t be put off by the reservation online, or try calling during service hours. The welcome first class, the food is very good home cooking, nothing fancy with flowers or balsamic vinegar reductions simple French classical family food with very generous portions. House special, Pike in a cream sauce, super! Chicken in tarragon jus with roasted veggies, superb goats cheese board. The dessert looked scrumptious but we were all full. Great service, delicious coffee. Nice selection of MENETOU SALON wines too, as you would expect. I will look forward to going again!
C'heu le zib has been around for years and is currently run by the eponymous Zib granddaughter, with gusto and warmth. She's aiming at keeping up the spirit: limited choice but great quality, and a rarity plates large enough to get a second, or even, if you feel like it, a third serving. Food is not super sophisticated but has a nice homely feel. As a telling sign, it's popular with the locals so booking is advisable. Mission accomplished
