I am not a huge fan of 'Australian' Chinese restaurants but I was hangry (hungry / angry) so decided that the closest restaurant will have to do. It was a cold Canberra night so I felt like a bit of short / combination soup.Decor - nothing red, or green, or gold, or dragons - just modern furnishings very pleasing to the eye.Menu had a variety of both Malay, Thai and Chinese dishes. Chinese people don't do Malay or Thai very well so left those dishes alone.Basic sweet corn soup was well priced but wait...what's this? Short soup / combination short soup was $20. Not paying that. So settled for 2 types of dim sums (har gau and shui mai), rice and AJ Chicken.Service by the 2 ladies were friendly...
Biggish and diverse menu. A family favourite is the Beef fillet Hor Fun noodles - recommend - it is full of tender 'real' beef. Eggplant with spicy salt is divine - for takeaway - they cook it when you arrive so maximum crispy when you get home. Wasabi Beef - small serve but amazing quality beef and ohhhh so tender and wassaabii (not full of onion and capsicum which is good)! The ladies are lovely and often throw in a free bottle of wine if you spend over some amount on takeaway. This is our go to Chinese/Malayasian in Canberra - bit more expensive but worth it. Restaurant is lovely and not pretentious - good for families, couples and small-medium groups.
my man and I visited this restaurant on the basis of TripAdvisor recommendations. we were very disappointed. the food was well undercut, overpriced, and we both had skin complaints afterwards. the peking deenpfannkuchen were unpalatable: but in the microshaft were zapped...Number of times before, in full, it may be unresistant that the meat was so hard. the other meal times were only average. a regrettable waste of money when we look forward to the attempt of this institution.
We went here late one Thursday night and they were very busy, but fortunately they found a small table for us. It was vibrant, full of people which made for a buzzing atmosphere. I had the laksa with extra spice and they did a great job, it was just how I like it and the seafoon in the laksa was cooked perfectly. The service was not the best as they were very busy, but the food came out quickly once we got served. There is also a good wine list and the prices are reasonable.

The China Plate is set in the Kingston shopping block where there are many varied restaurants. The number of restaurants in the area will ensure there is something for everyone. However anyone who enjoys Chinese food should ensure they have a meal at the China Plate. The decor is stylish, the food has a wide choice of dishes and when the well presented food is served, you will have an enjoyable meal. This is one of the nicest Chinese meals I have ever had.
This is a small but extremely well done family restaurant. I have been contracting in Canberra for 4 months and have taken every opportunity with work colleagues and friends to eat here. The green tea is exceptional and the service is engaging and personal but not over the top. The menu Is tasty and brings me back. I highly recommend this for lunch and dinner and best to book in.
A charming Asian restaurant with very good food and pleasant and helpful staff. Lovely pepper and salt calamari; great noodles and the highlight was stirfried king prawns with garlic and ginger. I want to go back there!
Enjoyed our meal at the China Plate. Very busy restaurant offering good service. Food very tasty. Ambience quite good but we found the restaurant very cold. We mainly shared entrees and rice.

The dumpling entrees were very good but the green curry and the prawn sambal were lacking in taste. Service was good and value for money was excellent.
My wife and I really enjoyed this restaurant, food was excellent as was the service. Will be going back.
