We ordered carryout for 3 dishes lobster meat, Mediterranean whole sea bass, and crabmeat vermicelli. For the lobster meat, we chose the Cantonese style, which basically is stir fry in soy and pepper sauce. It was pretty delicious, and actually better than our expectation. The lobster meat comes with 2 side dishes. Tip: for the best enjoyment, you may want to eat the lobster meat with a lot of rice. The rice would taste super yummy with the soy and pepper sauce, and you can order steamed Jasmine white rice as a side dish. Visited here on a Monday night, not too packed, walked right on to our table for two....Started the dinning out with some beers (yeah no mai Thai's tonight , garlic rolls, seafood gumbo soup, and fried calamari. We made a reservation after hearing so much about the famous Bob Chinn's and I had no idea what to expect. For some reason it was more casual than what I thought (not in a bad way! once our table was ready, we got seated and my husband ordered the famous Mai Tai. Really bad value and pretty bad food. You can charge high prices if the food is good, but you're literally overpaying for bad food.I got the frutti di mare, and the first round of mussels had 2 spoiled ones. They smelled SO bad. I sent it back and got a new one, and it was better but still one of them didn't smell that fresh. The pasta was tasteless and there wasn't really a sauce. Really disappointing pasta fish. One of my favorite places to eat when I fly to Chicago for work... I eat here every time I come! So many good things on the menu so it's hard to recommend a favorite. However, my typical go to is the king crab but I tried the bites this time which are basically the knuckles/joints of the legs. The meat is good but every joint has some cartilage on both pieces so just be aware of that. I really like the potatoes so I usually get those as my side along with the green beans. We like meeting our family who's from the Chicago suburbs here because it's close to the midpoint for us in Milwaukee. I am sometimes leery of having seafood in the Midwest unless it's a fancier place because I worry about freshness. But I don't worry at Bob Chin's because it's huge, always crowded so you know the sheer volume they do means it's fresh. Service is good. Atmosphere is fun and fast paced.
Our server, Luanne, was absolutely phenomenal! She was thorough and sweet and very knowledgeable of all the menu items!! The crab vermicelli and the stuffed mushrooms were unbelievable!!! The chef did an amazing job preparing my steak perfectly as well.Hands down the BEST place we've been to in a long time.
