To make matters worse, there was a wedding happening in the event space. I was on the third floor and it felt like I was right in the middle of the celebration! This hotel is in need of a major overhaul. Tenafly does not have many options, which is maybe why the Clinton Inn has been able to delay a remodel, but it is time. The rooms are out of date and many are falling apart. The paint is bad, there are dents, chips, holes in walls, and the carpet for sure needs to be replaced. (See all the Yelp photos. The lobby has potential, but the 'store ' is ridiculous. Food and frozen meals but only one microwave and no plastic silverware. If I spend $5 for ramen, you 'd think there would be some water around, but nope, had to buy a $3 water bottle, and then the microwave isn 't really tall enough for the container. Simple things to fix that would save guests...
Stayed one night as planned. It's an older hotel, and things are a little worn out. The room was clean, but amenities lack. Only a single cup coffee maker, accompanied by a single serving for regular and for decaf. Both dark roast. I personally don't like dark roast. Lighting is still cfl bulbs, and half of them were unscrewed. The fridge worked, but only one microwave is available, at the front desk, in our case, an elevator ride away. Bathroom was better than most i the same price range, but the toilets are not low flow. I would give this place zero stars if I could. I reserved a room for family visiting from out of state, and I was extremely disappointed. The lobby has an unpleasant smell, reminiscent of a funeral home. The hallways leading to the rooms have holes in the walls, the wallpaper is peeling, and there are visible signs of severe mold and water damage. Additionally, the carpets in the hallways are stained throughout. Without going into it in depth (that would be a novel), don 't do it. We booked for a two week stay and have changed hotels after 3 days. Reasons: 1. No coffee or food in the hotel whatsoever 2. No heat 3. No towel service other that the every other day scheduled housekeeping service. 4. Unhelpful/unfriendly/nasty front desk staff. Example: When I used a food delivery service for my morning coffee (since they have none), they stopped the person from delivering my coffee and roll to my room. Once upon a time, we would travel to see family and this was our go to place. It had been doable , had become less comfortable over time, but it is no longer an acceptable place to stay. It had been 80 degrees outside and there was no A/C, desk mgr. had an attitude, and they made us pay in full at check in! Our best guess for that demand was likely because guests left almost as soon as they arrived, and probably under cover of darkness. No food, restaurant is closed, lamps did not all work, skimpy on towels, and very noisy. Even the toilet was a joke, and didn 't always flush it 's contents! There is no hot water because the boiler is broken, and it will take a week to repair. This leaves guests without access to a hot shower.
