Tuesday night turned out to be one of the best rockfish dinners I’ve ever had. Our server, a kind gentleman named Mike, was new to us, but he provided excellent service. We ordered two dinners along with a fried portobello mushroom appetizer, a Caesar salad, and a new red blend wine. I sincerely hope to see rockfish back on the menu soon. My date wanted me to try their Spanish coffee since he wanted me to see how they make it with fire lol. The service was good and we ordered the chef's special dessert which helped with the slight bite to the Spanish coffee. The dessert was a brownie with a hardened chocolate top, a scoop of vanilla ice cream, and pecans with a cherry on top! It was delicious, though the chocolate covering the brownie top was a bit hard to cut through so we had to stab it with the fork with a good amount of force. This was our second visit to the restaurant. The first time, the service was excellent and the food was just average. Unfortunately, this time both the service and the food were disappointing. The restaurant was nearly empty for a Friday night. My duck dish was very small, just a few bites, and my husband’s steak, which he ordered medium rare, came out well done. The 3.5% service fee for credit card payments is off-putting and annoying, especially since it comes on top of the 11.5% sales tax. While the service is excellent and the food is consistently good—not exceptional—the drinks are both good and pricey. It would be better to incorporate that service fee into the overall prices like many other establishments do; if you're charging enough, you can certainly manage it.
We learned tonight that the happy hour time and bar space is the place to be. Outside tables were taken, we opted for an inside table and we were the only ones in the restaurant. Waitress forgot us for a while. After coming back to the bar area we were seated in a window table, had excellent service, small bites full menu and good drinks at a reduced price.
