Bright, airy and friendly is what first hit me when I walked in to this establishment. Last time I was here, it was still Urban run by Bethany Finn and I loved it then. We were greeted by a very professional friendly waiter, who seated us immediately with menus.This is a very smart looking café and you can choose to sit outside overlooking Vic Park or inside.We ordered juices and breakfasts. Juices were fresh, cold and nice. All of the breakfasts were excellent, nice presentation and very good prices. I ordered the pulled pork with poached eggs, greens and hollandaise. I came across Commissary while driving along Fullarton Road from Norwood; it looked like a classy café and was busy with customers so I added it to my To-Try list. Having been here a few times now, I understand why it’s such a popular cafe. Outside seating is available on the open wooden-deck. Although located by a road, it is a lovely spot to sit out and eat while overlooking the parklands. Inside, the large, open space has plenty of lighting from the large glass-front windows and the black and wooden furnishing with clean finishes add a touch of elegance. We were greeted at the door by a very pleasant young man. We had not booked but he was able to give us a table because the spare table was saved for another time and we could be out before the table was needed.We ordered coffee while we waited for our breakfast. I had a very nice Omelette which I asked for it to be well done and it arrived perfect. My husband had some free range eggs with home style beans in a small bowl and hash browns. He said the beans were delicious. We were served by Ellen who was very friendly and efficient and she came back to the table a couple of times to see if we wanted anything more. .Next time i would book as most tables were reserved when we arrived. Couldn't speak highly enough of the service my friend and i received whilst dining at Commissary. My friend couldn't decide on what she wanted to eat and one of the lovely waitresses helped her make up her own "healthy plate" she was patient, helpful and went above and beyond! I didn't want to get food envy so i ended up changing my order to get what my friend had! it didn't disappoint the plate consisted of a bed of sauteed kale, grilled chicken, goat cheese, smashed avocado, filed mushrooms, brocoliini, pumpkin and finished with a basil pesto. Busy friendly re-do of what was once Urban. Great for breakfast or lunch, popular so book if you can, and good food choices. This time smoked salmon & avocado salad for me - nicely dressed with pine nuts - and chicken & walnut salad for my partner. Last week with other friends I had the salmon bagel.Shame they didn't have the wine we preferred - a delivery delay - and the riesling we had was far too chilled to appreciate. But great coffee and a cheery waitress.Although it can be noisy, the tables are sufficiently apart to enjoy your own chat. Parking - in the street - is not bad; occasionally a bit of a walk.But it is such a good vibe, you will want to return.
One of my favourite locals...I come here often for lunch and it never disappoints. Whether its soup of the day or a salad dish it's always fresh and very tasty. The decor is modern, a great vibe inside and excellent service by staff. The place closes around 3.00pm daily so it's definitely a breakfast or lunch spot overlooking the Victoria Park race course. The coffee's are great and lovely gluten free desserts to treat yourself!
Came here for a supposedly "late brunch" with friends during my quick visit to Adelaide. Skipped lunch and went straight for the dessert. The red velvet waffle with vanilla bean cream served with blueberries, fairy floss and cream cheese drizzle met beyond my expectations. After always driving past, finally gave this place a visit and wasn't disappointed. The service was quick, friendly and the food was delicious. The sautéed greens with added halloumi was delicious and filling. The menu overs a variety of different meals for each diet.
